Peace. Quiet. Lake outings and birthday cakes.

When have you even thought about folks taking a slow boat trip on a lake?  When did you last see a picture of folks doing that?  It was all in the movies.  The lady would have on hat and gloves and huge skirt.  The man would be dressed to the tails, too, and they'd be floating around with romance in the air.

Here we have a more realistic scene.  Bathing suit.  Taking care of the kid!

Drifting on the lake

And while we take a glance back, let's study this one.  In the past it was not fashionable to have kids get birthday cake all over their faces and clothes and the guests and the kitchen.  They just sat outside with a tiny table and a friend and learned manners.  Those were the good old days!!!

I hope that is the B-day girl licking her finger?  I love the buffy sleeves, the hair parted on one side and the Big Bow!  Is that a little dress and ruffled socks?  I remember making ruffled socks for all the girls in my cabin one year I worked in summer camp.  Who is the little darling?

I love the old photos!  That's quite a boat, and one lucky kid to have a mom to take him/her for a ride on the water...

Debbie, I don't know who they are but the pictures were found in the family archives along with many others.  You'd have to see Anita's picture of her grandchild to appreciate this little girl's manners. (I hope she doesn't see this!)  He is covered with spaghetti sauce!!! Ugh!!

Brenda, bet mom could swim or perhaps the lake is small enough to stand up in.

Now Barbara, you knew I would see this!  I'll have to direct Debbie to Quinn and the spaghetti face blog!

LOVE it that the kids have on SHOES.  and high tops at that!  Today they would be barefoot or in those thong things they wear for every occasion.   I think I have a pic. of me sitting at a little table outside, with the birthday cake on the table.  Good thinking, Moms of the good ole days.

Thanks for sharing a bit of your memories.  I found myself looking at the pictures a little longer then if they were pictures of flowers or scenery!

That was certainly a different time. Note that there are no life jackets. That wouldn't fly today. Kind of spoils

the idylic nature of the boating.

Barbara, come on, it is not possible to eat chocolate properly without getting it all over you face and the people around you :)

Anita, please don't bring that ugly picture back.  I think I deleted it from my files!  I get nightmares just thinking of having to clean up that grandchild of yours.  : )

Chris, people in pictures always make the pictures best.

Don, I'm thinking that you could just wade out and the mother was just showing off her boating skill.

Charles, is that why you were working nekkid that time so you could eat chocolate!  ;)
