The other day something made me think about real estate agents who are licensed and carry a personal defense weapon while doing their job. It made me jump to the potential risk to the agent's sponsoring broker. This made me wonder if anyone addresses this issue in the office policy manual.
Please do not go into a spiel about gun rights or the right of self defense or pro or anti-gun legislation. This is a different topic of conversation.
What my thoughts are regarding an agent having a weapon on their person while conducting business are: 1) does the broker know? 2) is the agent's license to carry the weapon current? 3) how well is the agent trained in the use of the weapon and 4) is this situation covered in the brokerage policy manual? The risk is tremendous.
At our Independent Real Estate Professionals meeting this week I brought up the question and one suggestion was to run it by the State legal office at TAR. Good thought and have not done that as of yet.
So please share your thoughts and whether or not anyone has addressed this issue in their office policy manual.
