Go Ahead, Peek in My Drawers

Have you ever taken one of those organization quizzes in a magazine?  I have.  Always the same result.  Sure, they may have different cute catchy labels but it all means the same thing.  I'm a closet clutterbug!  I own it.  On the surface it appears that everything has a place.  But look behind the curtain (or in a drawer, closet, or cabinet) and the truth is revealed to all who are brave enough to look!  CHAOS!

If you are at all like me, the thought of someone peeking into those hidden areas of your home strikes terror through you!

What if you are a Closet Clutterbug and have to sell your house?  I know, don't even go there!  Buyers opening drawers, stepping into closets and peeking in our cabinets!  Ghastly!  Now, I'm not selling my house.  I'm too busy trying to sell yours.  But, let's do this together.  Take a deep breath, let's get organized.  Let's get the house ready to sell!

I'm going to take one cabinet, closet or drawer in my own home a day and clean it out once and for all!  Here we go.

First folks, let's keep it real.  The picture at the top of the page is the junk drawer in my kitchen.  Before I began it was so full that it had to be slammed to close.  The picture here shows all the contents that were crammed into that small space.  I found 4 scissors, a hammer, a flashlight, Tiki wicks (seriously?), 6 screwdrivers (who owns 6 screwdrivers?), and 2 staplers.  Hmmm, no wonder the darn thing wouldn't close and I could NEVER find a pen!

So, while I watched the Today Show this morning, I emptied the drawer and sorted the things we really use and tossed the junk.  I took all the tools back to the garage.  Then put the essentials back.  I didn't buy any fancy sorter.  Just grabbed a few plastic containers I already had on hand.  The whole process only took about 15 minutes.

Who knew?  We can do this!  Tomorrow let's tackle the pantry!  Ugh...

Thanks for allowing us into your drawers Kristen.  :)

You are right about the advice being the same, take the time to do it. The problem, I find, is that if I look at the junk drawer, the pantry, the office, the garage, ... it get to be overwhelming. Maybe starting with my drawers, I can begin to unclutter.

Thanks for the post.

Great title and great tips, Kristen!  A few weeks ago I tackled organizing the linen closet.  Really was kind of a "cleansing" feeling!  lol

Thanks for the great advice!
