Don't give up your dog just because your Insurance Company has that breed blacklisted. Make sure you check with other companies first because they all have different rules. For example, my company, Allstate in Arizona will ask what type of dog you have, however, we allow any breed when writing you a homeowner's policy. As long as that dog has no history of bites, you will be issued a policy with no problem. That will vary from state to state even within the same company because of different state laws. Most insurance companies will exclude the following dog breeds: Doberman, Chow, Rottweiler, Pit Bull, Akita, Wolf Hybrid. Here is a picture of my mutt, Garfield...he's a cross between a Ridgeback and Mastiff ( I think ) - Garfield is my spoiled baby as well as my security system!
Dana- Looks like pretty good security system to me. Never heard of anyone crossing a ridgeback with a mastiff- interesting.
Guess I never thought about it but I can see why insurance companies pick on one or two breeds.
Dana, I had no idea that some dogs were excluded from insurance policies. That just does not seem right. Personally I think it is all in how a dog is raised more than just a breed. We use the shaggy alarm also. Our current shaggy alarm is the best dog alarm we have ever had.
Dana,
Thank goodness my insurance company has never asked about my dogs since among the two small dogs I have I also have a Doberman and a Chow mix. Your alarm system looks to be very secure.
Dana,
I never thought about an insurance company excluding certain breeds. The sweetest dog I ever had was Ainsley, a purebreed Doberman.

Thanks for the comments you dog lovers out there. Suzanne, make sure your homeowners policy won't exclude your dogs. I got a call yesterday from a lady that said her company wouldn't cover her pit bulls.
