Finding The Perfect Neighborhood in Northern Nevada ~ Let me show you how!
With so many real estate opportunities for home buyers these days it is often a good idea to decide what neighborhoods will work for you and your family.
Before you make any offers on homes you should get to know the neighborhood. You really don't want to find out what buyers remorse feels like!
Hiring a professional real estate agent is essential in completing the home buying process. Your agent will not only help you find the right home in the neighborhood you choose, they will help negotiate with the seller and assist with helping you understand the mortgage process.
Just read Patricia Kennedy's ActiveRain blog "Price Isn't Everything: Evaluating The Offer" to get a complete understanding why it is important to hire a knowledgeable real estate agent. But before you hire your agent, you need to decide what neighborhoods you think you'd like to live in.
Here are some suggestions that will help you find the perfect Northern Nevada neighborhood:
-
Make a list of all the amenities you want in your new neighborhood ~ list those that are close to this neighborhood. For example, is there a grocery story close? Doctors offices?
-
What features in a neighborhood are important to you? Write them down as well! This will be helpful in deciding between a couple different areas you like. For example, are there any parks nearby? Are mountain views possible?
-
Is the area clean? Does it appear to be a well taken care of neighborhood?
-
Do you want to live in a community with HOA rules and regulations? HOA dues will be calculated into your monthly mortgage payments.
-
Walk around the neighborhoods you like and get a feel them! Are the residents friendly? The only way to determine if a neighborhood is friendly is to stop and say hello to those who live there.
- What are the market conditions of the neighborhood? How many homes are currently listed for sale? How many homes appear abandoned and bank owned?
- How close are the schools? Is transportation provided? Is the area to close to a school for you?
- Is the area close to the freeway? How long will your commute to work be?
- What is going on around the neighborhood? What is going to happen with the empty lot on the corner as you enter the area? Find out what the city council has planned for this area.
Once you have determined all the qualities you hope to find in a neighborhood then it is a good time to begin your home search. Keep in mind you are not going to find an area that has everything on you list. But you will find neighborhoods that come close. It will be up to you to decide what amenities you can live with and what ones you can't!
