Parking Meter System that would make ME crazy...

I read an interesting article today about What DC can learn from San Francisco's "Market-rate Parking".  Apparently it is a parking meter system in which the rates change based upon either time frames or how  full of parked cars a street is.

It seems complicated as hell to me.  How is one supposed to know what the rates are?  I don't know.  I am just afraid DC might do something similar at some point; and I fear that as typical; the implementation and communication will be less than great!

How do you know how full the street is?  Does someone come by and inspect it or do they put sensor in the ground?  Yes DC would screw it up completely.

And what about the new HOT lanes on the Capital Beltway with the same feature? If I understand it correctly, at least on the Beltway there will be a sign with the current toll status (Miami has this HOT Lane format).

Stan - D.C. (and I mean the metro, not just the city) is nuts! In many ways its a great place to live. Great jobs, a lot to do for free, rising home prices, but yes, horrible traffic!

I no longer do D.C.  Gridlock is just not inviting.  In fact, I don't do Arlington, most of Alexandria, Bethesda either.
