What do you do?
Recently, I started a series of blog posts that discuss the public perception of what a Realtor's job entails. My thirteen year old son honestly thought that my job was to open the doors of homes for people. That was it, nothing less nothing more. After educating him on the finer points of our profession, it frightened me that more people might have the same low expectations.
In order to change the perception we must first demonstrate that we are the neighborhood experts, contract experts and in today's post...the marketing experts! So how do you answer the following question when asked?
"What do you do?"
If you simply say that you are a Realtor with XYZ Realty, you are not marketing yourself or our profession effectively! Take a minute and jot down a 10 second elevator speech and memorize it.
For Example:
Question- "Nice to meet you Missy. What do you do?"
Answer- "So glad you asked! I work hard everyday as a professional Realtor for XYZ Realty. I take pride in helping families buy the perfect home at a fair price that meets their needs in condition and location. I also market homes for sale to assist my clients in getting the best price for the condition and time frame requested."
A great elevator speech will spark guided conversation that gives you an opportunity to talk about one of your listings, a positive view on the market and/or to ask for referrals. Face to face marketing is powerful and FREE!
There are countless ways to market yourself and your listings and the cost varies with each avenue. Research the opportunities that fit your market and your budget and get the good word out!
