Cypress Creek Subdivision always looks forward to spring and our newest residents, baby sandhill cranes.

Sandhill cranes and babiesThese little fellows are so much fun to watch as they grow up.

  • Fun facts about Sandhill cranes.
  • The baby birds are a rust color at birth and change to grayish brown as adult bird.
  • The mate for life, if one is lost or killed the other mate will stay alone for life.
  • The usually have twins at birth.
  • The babies don't fly for months with both parents walking with them the whole time.
  • A Sandhill crane flying creates a load wing noise. Sounds like a small plane.
  • They stay in the same area . They have for years lived in our neighborhood.
  • They have a loud high screech. They call each other many streets away.
  • Their favorite place to screech from is outside my bedroom window early Saturday morning!
  • Look at their knobby knees!!
