Showing homes Arizona Style

By
Real Estate Agent with Dominion Fine Properties SA582226000

Today, as I drove my clients up to Desert Mountain in Scottsdale, AZ, to show them a new listing, I checked in with the guard and handed him a morning pastry.  He said he already had my card and knew my license plate by heart.  My clients were impressed until I told them I always bring the guards a treat - they tend to remember me.

The guard gave me the community map with great directions to the home (GPS doesn't work well up in the mountains.) We found it with no problems.  Then, I started looking for the lockbox since there were no instructions in MLS - sore subject.  I always feel like this part is a game of adult hide and seek.

Well, I found it - AHA!!!!  Right behind the largest and thorniest of all the cactuses in the desert!!!!

So, I gingerly snuck behind the cactus straight into the waiting tangles of an enormous spider web from which the angry little spider decided to jump into my hair.  I'm trying to get this pesky little thing out of my hair all the while mindful of that wonderful thorny guy behind me.

My clients were laughing HYSTERICALLY!!!

Seriously, why wasn't the lockbox just on the front door?

The perils of showing homes in Scottsdale, AZ.

Juli,  Your clients will always remember this day with you!  I had a situation with some clients where they were able to laugh at me... The Mrs told me days later..... that her husband still laughs about that incident!  Laughing is good for the heart.... even if at our expense. :)

Hi Juli, Than answer is: Because the agent is an IDIOT … a non-thinking moron! So sorry you had this experience. I wish you all the best in finding the perfect home for your clients.

Joshua, I love to take care of these guard gate people - pastries for morning showing and cookies or cupcakes for afternoon showings or to set up my open houses - they can and do direct traffic.

Kathleen, it's probably one of those agents who has a company do it and they were told to put it on the front water spigot - just following directions, LOL.

Hi Juli, I love the way you tell your stories. I have to agree with you on the placement of the lock box. Some agents very strangly place their boxes.

Good grief, I'm thinking it's not funny, but funny the way you told it Juli.  I hope you included the ridiculous location of the lockbox in your feedback - oh and a rattler?  I'm probably one who would never get used to those! YIKES!

Thanks, Dawn - it's funny now and I'm sure I looked funny to the my clients, but what a pain in the you know where, LOL.

Mary, they're a fact of life around here.  After all, there were here first. But, they just to need to know that I'm more important, LOL.

That certainly broke the ice, Juli.  I would love to have seen you.  What a daft place to stick the lockbox.

Jane, it really was like a comic strip scene, LOL.  I've been thinking about this - maybe our supra lock boxes need to be better designed to allow for different placements, although this one could have easily been put on the front door.

Thanks, Laura, except for the icky spider webs and the spider in MY hair, it was pretty funny.  At the time, not so much, LOL

Dawn, I think I'll just wait until Halloween time and send him one of those fake spider webs anonymously.  Yeah, I really like that idea - can't wait.

Oh, I am re-living this just as I read this.  I can't tell you how many thorns and prickles I have got in the name of lock-box hunting!!!  Love the humor and the photo.  GREAT idea for a post.

Thanks, Cara - it still does crack me up.  It's a good thing I was wearing my "summer" outfit - shorts and a logo polo shirt.  Normally, I'll wear a skirt or dress when showing homes, but that's another blog, LOL.

Did you call the agent to find out why it was placed in such a precarious place?  Like the cookies and pastries thing, nice touch!

LOL, Dee, wasn't worth the call.  As to the cookies and pastries - I've used this forever.  One subdivision I like to sit open houses (haven't had time lately) the guards all tell the drive-ins - stop at this house first!  Then, I can leave my assistant, AKA hubby, there while I take them to the other open houses while getting to know their wants and needs.
