Paying It Forward - How Facebook Is Helping Alabama Victims

By
Real Estate Agent

This is a lovely story that I'd like to share - once again, the amazing power of social networking is stepping up to provide some help for victims of the recent tornado disaster.

The page, "Pictures and Documents found after the April 27, 2011 Tornadoes," has been "liked" by over 83,500 people since it was set up in the hours after the tornadoes ripped through eight southern U.S. states, killing over 300 people.

What you will see there is over 1,600 pictures that have been recovered. People have lost SO much - material things can be replaced - but family pictures cannot - I know I would be mortified to lose these things. So far - according to a new article - 40 items have been recovered - but I know this number will rise with more exposure.

Please feel free to pass this on - create your own post to share this awesome site. I think it's important that we spread the news - and help bring these precious items back to their rightful owners.

Emily thanks for sharing this with us.  Often, we get so immersed in our daily lives, we forget to take time out to help each other.  This is indeed a very kind gesture.  Thank you.

I LOVE THIS, It's amazing!  I will send it to my dad & stepmom who found several things (including mail from Mississippi) in their front yard after the storm.  They live in the Cullman, AL area which was hit pretty hard!

I will also reblog to spread the word.  I would be devastated to lose family photos & documents and would totally appreciate the help of strangers in recovering such treasured items!

Hi Emily,

What a great idea to post the pictures so they can be recovered by their owners.  Thanks for making us aware of this!

What a great idea! I would love to see something like this for all photos found. I had some photos that were stolen when my car was stolen a couple years ago that I have been unable to replace. If those were found I would pay a reward for them.
