ActiveRainPhotoBloggerContest The Metal Tree in Washington DC

A few days ago, I took my children to enjoy an early spring day to Washington DC's mall area.

This is in and around the Washington momentum and Smithsonian Institution home of the world's largest museum complex and research organization composed of 19 museums, 9 research centers, and the National Zoo.

We visited several museums and my children were taken aback by this gigantic metal tree in the outdoor sculpture garden in Washington DC.

This photo of a metal tree, "Graft"( 2008-2009) by American artist Roxy Paine, was the highlight of our outdoor event that day.

For those that do not know the area. .

Washington DC is surrounded by Maryland and Virginia. The beltway is a loop all around the capital and most times it is very congested. . my advice is to use the Metro System and avoid driving. Parking can be an issue especially in and around the museums’ the Washington monument and specially the White House. Better leave that car parked at you hotel and use public transportation.

As a local resident, (yes, I’m local living in Maryland) you can enjoy all these museums, shopping, museums, and a number of theaters and parks. There are also many fine restaurants, businesses for employment opportunities, and local churches.

The coolest thing if you come to Washington DC.. .all museums are FREE TO THE PUBLIC!, (well most of them. . )

But yes, you pay already with your taxes. . so come and see it for your next vacation!

The average climate in the DC area is 55.6 degrees F. In winter, the temperature average is 35.5 degrees F. In summer, it's 85.2 degrees F.

Come to DC . .”The Most Powerful City in the World!

Enjoy it. .

Hi Fernando~

It sounds like you have a very interesting Real Estate practice!

Your photo is great. We have a tree similar to yours in Seattle's Olympic Sculpture Park!

Thank you for the great information on your area too!

Best regards,

Having the kids there gives you a "real" feel as to the enormity of this. So.....where do I learn about the photoblogger's contest???

That's a cool looking sculpture. And this is the first I had heard about "The Metal Tree." I have flown into Washington's airport, and out of it, but always seem to be going elsewhere. I plan to remedy that one day, and visit the nations great places and monuments.

Hi Fernando, I love that tree ! I want one. No leaves to clean up but polishing this thing could take a while. I really enjoyed your contest entry. Well done!

Fernando, that is an amazing tree! I've been to the Smithsonian years ago. It's a great place but takes more than one day to see it all. This is great glimpse to the area. Thanks!

Fernando-my first and only trip to DC, well, it was 6 degrees outside and the museums were the only sight seeing we could do without freezing our you know what's off! didn't get to see this tree though so i'll have to look for it next time we are there. should probably do that now as opposed to the middle of january like last time.

Nice picture Fernando, first time we have seen a metal tree.  Guess the "Tin Man" from the Wizard of Oz would appreciate it.   Good Luck with the photo contest.

Hey Fernando - Cool Photo. Only top of the tree was in view on my monitir when it loaded - it was not until I scrolled that I saw the scale of it - with your two children standing next to it.What a unique family photo!

I get down to DC on occasion for work - never been to the museums - but I look forward to checking them out soon.
