Need Something Fun to Read this Weekend - Any Recommendations?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty

When I have any time to spare on weekends, I usually try to read something for pleasure. No business books, no motivational stories, just pure fun. Suspense novels are probably on top of my list, particularly written by David Baldacci.

David Baldacci used to be a corporate and trial attorney in Washington, DC, so his stories usually take place around DC area. Since I live close to DC, David's stories are even more fun to read - I am familiar with the places he writes about.

He became a bestselling author after writing his first novel, "Absolute Power."Many of you probably remember a movie based on this book, with Gene Hackman as the President, and Clint Eastwood as a thief who happened to witness a murder implicating the President.

Since this is a Mother's Day weekend, I'm planning to spend a large portion of it reading for fun. Have any of you read his latest book, "The Sixth Man"?  I would love to hear what you think of Baldacci's last book. I am also open to suggestions of other books and authors you love.

Although I prefer reading printed books, I also own a Nook (Kindle), so I can download any book you recommend within a few minutes. Sometimes technology is great! No need to leave home, if you don't feel like it, to get a new book.

Elizabeth, I haven't read anything by David Baldacci but I will be checking into his books now.  I just finished The Lost Symbol by Dan Brown which is set in Washington, DC.  It was a very fun, easy yet suspenseful book (kindle) to read.  I am in a book club and we recently read "The Help" and "Water for Elephants", both were great books that I would suggest as well.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend!  --Krystal

Krystal, you've mentioned three great books. I've already read The Lost Symbol, but not the other two. Thank you very much for the recommendation - I will put these books on my list.

Lynn - David Baldacci is one of my favorite novel writers. His books are suspenseful and you don't want to put them down. Have a fabulous Mother's Day, too.

Hi Elizabeth,

I still haven't found a book recently that is more interesting and absolutely incredible than Blind Man's Bluff.  It is a book on the history of the US submarine force during the Cold War Era and their incredible intelligence gathering coups against the Soviet Union.  After reading this book I knew it was just a matter of time before we would get Bin Laden with all the incredible technology we had to gather information on our adversaries!

Some of the most incredible feats by our submariners included going into Soviet waters and locating communications cables and Navy divers going out of the sub and tapping the communications cables in the Barents Sea and Sea of Okhotsk.

Just an absolutely incredible book, Elizabeth.  It is certainly stranger than fiction!

Elizabeth - that particular movie Absolute Power was a great movie - never read the book though. The best book I've ever read, and I'm an avid reader is The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini - it is a must read and you won't get a thing done once you pick it up! The best beach book IMO is Sail by James Patterson - but it's still not close to the Kite Runner.

Kristine - thank you. I will definitely put both books on my list. I am familiar with The Kite Runner, but haven't read it yet. I have read some other books by J. Patterson, but not Sail - it is on my list.

Absolute Power was one of those books you can't put down. David Baldacci books are great! I have gotten hooked on books by Vince Flynn lately. Since you like Baldacci, and live near DC, you would probably like Vince Flynn books - they are very suspensful! I have read Term Limits, Transfer of Power, The Third Option, and Executive Power. There are several others in his series that I am looking forward to reading.

Elizabeth, wouldn't it be fun to get a real book group together on Active Rain?  I'm in one that's made up of neighbors and it's so much fun.  And thanks for the Balducci recommendation.
