Lighthouse Point Park - Morris Cove Residents Get Parking Relief

Lighthouse Point Park in the Morris Cove section of New Haven is one of Southern Connecticut's most popular public beaches.  Close to town, and right off I-95, it attracts thousands of visitors each year.  Each year 12,000-15,000 visitors stop through during a typical Memorial Day Weekend, and the sunny weather forecasted for this weekend should bring out similar numbers.

As the case with many public parks, the parking situation near Lighthouse has been a problem for both guests and residents who live near the park in the Morris Cove neighborhood in New Haven, CT.  While both season and daily parking passes for Lighthouse Point Park can be purchased by non-residents, many guests to the park try to find spaces in the streets surrounding the park to avoid paying for parking.  This poses a huge problem for Morris Cove residents, who often find their driveways blocked by beach-goers or are unable to find parking near their own homes.

To curb parking problems for neighbors, public streets near the park have been re-zoned as resident only.  This measure will help Morris Cove residents find parking near their homes during the summer months, and will keep guest parking in residential areas to a minimum.  The park has ample paid parking for guests, so visitors to Lighthouse Point Park will still be able to go to the beach and catch some rays during the summer.
