why is this home on the Historic Register? Was there some significant event there or a visit from a historic person?

Thanks,

CH,

This home was built for the daughter of JC Steele who was the founder of JC Steele and Sons in 1889.  Follow this link for a little more history on JC Steele:  http://www.jcsteele.com/history.htm

JC Steele built a home for himself, one for his son and one for his daughter all in a row.  The home is know as the JT Montgomery home and I am still trying to determine why it was named that.  Not sure if she was married to someone by that name or if it was a business partner.  JC Steele is a big name in Statesville and contributed much to the city.

My sellers know much more of the history than I do and would be happy to share if interested.  I have asked them to write up a background on the home to have available for buyers.

The entire Academy Hill District is listed on the Historic Database and individual owners can choose to place a plaque on their own.  There may not have been a significant event for any particular home that is registered on the Historic Register.

Hope this helps answer your question.

Sonya
