I am a cheap chick, bargain babe, money-saving momma, what every you want to call me.... Remember, I have over a half dozen kiddos, I have to be... So, I decided, this summer, one day out of every summer week the kids and I will do a FUN, EDUCATIONAL, CHEAP, day trip...
Week one: WASHINGTON DC
This is awesome!!! Listen up... My kids ave never been to our nations capital, which is so close, yet seems to far from reality for the kids. I decided how I could make this work on a shoestring budget, and stil have an awesome time.
Washington D.C.~~~~ Jason, myself, and four of the kids took the MARC train from the Perryville, Cecil County, Md. station to Union Station in Washington, D.C.
Cost of train ride: $11.00 each way for Jason and I, KIDS RIDE FREE!!!!!! Cost of round trip tickets: $44.00
After exiting the MARC Train in Union Station, we took a well rounded walking tour. The train drops you off right in the middle of the city! We saw many of the sites, and important buildings in out nations capitol!
Cost of walking tour: FREE!
Lunch was next on the agenda! The day before the trip, I took a tip to the dollar store and bought lunch for the kids, including 2 six-packs of water, froze them, and used them as ice packs to keep the lunchables cool.
Cost of lunch: $8.00
(By the way, lunch and snacks, had a beautiful view on the National Mall!)
Next up was the Smithsonian Air & Space Museum and Museum of Natural History. Two greart places for kids to enjoy. Planes and dinosaur bones!
