I just saw a few of these at an open house of all places and they are very agressive. I think they are called brown egrets.  Help me out.

It looks like some kind of bird or flying mammal, right?

I will go with Egret as I think that is part of the crane family and that plus your subject line is going to be the bases for my guess...
