Inspector Profile: Betty-Jean Offut

By
Home Inspector with U.S. Inspect, LLC

Every day across the United States hundreds of homes are inspected by our employee inspectors. We want to recognize the work they do and to allow you to become more familiar with the U.S. Inspect home inspectors you may encounter.

Today, we'd like to introduce you to Betty-Jean "BJ" Offutt, a nationally certified inspector on our Colorado Springs, CO team.

Background: My name is Betty-Jean Offutt and I go by "BJ". I have been a home inspector for U.S. Inspect and a member of the National Association of Home Inspectors (NAHI) for over 14 years.

Tell us a little about "you" outside of work? I am a proud mother of 3 children, Nikki 29, Kimberly 28 and Tyler, 27. They all live in Louisville, Kentucky, so without choice, I am a University of Louisville Cardinal fan and love watching horses race at Churchill Downs and especially the Kentucky Derby. What's something not many people know about you? Though Colorado is my home now, I was born in Rutherford, New Jersey, and I traveled across the country living in Texas, Kansas, and Kentucky among many other places.

Who or what inspires you? I have been blessed to travel so much in my life and to meet so many wonderful people. Among some of the most inspirational are my mother and father. They lived amazing, honest and hard-working lives. They were truly an ideal example of what it is to be great people.

What do you like to do in your free time? Now that I have made Colorado my home, I have learned to love the outdoors. Camping and hiking have quickly become two of my favorite hobbies. Spending long weekends out in the woods with friends and sitting in my hot tub looking my beautiful view of Pike's Peak reminds me everyday why I love this state. Why did you become a home inspector? Besides the outdoors, real estate has always been a passion of mine and makes home inspecting a natural fit. I remember spending Sunday afternoons hopping from open house to open house to see what other homes were like and to get decorating and layout ideas. When the idea of home inspecting came up, I knew it would be something that excited me everyday.

What's most likely to be playing on your radio as you drive to your next inspection? When it comes to music, oldies and rock are what you will find playing on my radio. I am a huge Beatles fan though I am sometimes forced to listen to country music when my daughters are in the car.

What are some of your favorite things? When it comes to movies, I prefer a comedy over a drama any day. If I am home on my couch, HGTV is sure to be on. Among some of my favorite shows are Holmes on Homes, Design to Sell and House Hunters.

What's your favorite part about being an inspector? The best part of my job is giving men to-do lists…and they can't get mad at me!

To request BJ for your inspection simply request her by name when you call 888-874-6773, or chose her from the list of inspectors when ordering online at www.usinspect.com/schedule.

Thank you for your time and service Ms. Offut!
