Are you planning on moving to Beaverton, Oregon? If you answered yes, ask yourself, "How much do I need to make in order to afford the same house and life style I have presently?"

I have many people wanting to move to Beaverton, Oregon area because of its beauty and community spirit, but what they don't realize is that they just can't get the same home for the money that they could if they stayed where they are at.

I would love to help you move to Beaverton, Oregon and would love to help you find the perfect home, I just don't want you to get sticker shock when I send you a list of homes from the Portland Metro area.

Some people, when they come here, are pleasantly surprised by home prices when they arrive in Beaverton for the first time. If you are from San Francisco, and want to move to Portland, you could make 32% less than you do now and keep the same life style. But, if you were moving from some where like Mobile, Alabama, then you would need to make 30% more than you presently make.

If you are being asked to be moved by your employer, make sure the increase in pay is equal to the cost of living cost increase that you are requiring. Some people are offered a large raise to move cross country and they get stars in their eyes, until they realize that it is equal to taking a 15% decrease in pay from where they are presently.

Before you move I suggest you visit a relocation calculator like the one Bankrate.com has to offer. It breaks things down in simple terms and is easy to read.

Also remember, that you are going to be having moving costs. This could cost you thousands of dollars, not counting the stays at hotels and temporary housing once you get here. For more help on how to save money on your move, and discounts on extended stay hotels in the Beaverton area, feel free to contact me anytime. I would love to help you with your pending move to the Beaverton area.

Todd - Good suggestions to do your homework before you make a decision to move.  One word of caution...moving to a higher priced area has absolutely no impact on the price you place on the home you are selling.  The market your home is located in decides the price, not the market you are moving to.

Way to keep 'em from coming Todd! It's an old Oregon tradition to keep those outsiders, well.... outside!

I completely agree with you though and use a similar calculator from CNN Money that I forward to potential relocation clients. We need to keep it in perspective. Oregon is expensive.

Todd- So, I guess you can stop looking for my house if I will make less money there :) :)  Oh, and the rating system is gone, or will be by tomorrow (see Laurie Manny's Post).

Seriously now, this is good info....sometimes we forget that what we earn, types of jobs available, and costs involved in moving are important factors.  Marlene's comment is also important to remember.  Thanks for the link.
