Texas Woman’s University, in Denton, Texas, students are working with the Denton County Friends of the Family Thrift Store to host “Let’s Give to Make a Difference,” a donation drive and community event from noon to 4 p.m. Saturday. (July 23rd).
Ashfanelia Pope, a senior social work major, said the event will be at the store, 1614 W. University Drive in Denton. The community project will include food, raffle prizes and other activities, she added.
Pope said she and five other TWU students have been working on the event as a class project.
“We’re all really excited about the event,” she said.
Denton County Friends of the Family serves victims of sexual assault and domestic violence, and profits from the thrift store benefit the program’s shelter for battered women and children. Area residents can help by donating furniture, clothing and other items for the thrift store, which recently moved to a new location, Pope said.
“We want to advertise the new location and get people into the store,” she said of Saturday’s event.
