Not Realty but a Reality Show...Really

This was a reality...not realty show. Really!

Okay, take a break. It's been a tough week and we should all just kick back. Lots of ActiveRain blogs dealt with quirky clients, tangled contracts and terminal closings.  Let it go, let it all go for tonight.

Most of you aren't old enough to remember "game shows" that weren't cruel, painful or humiliating.  Can you believe this...whole families would have dinner TOGETHER, talk about their day and then all watch something fun TOGETHER.  I hope that some of that still happens, although...I don't recognize the same type of television existing today - too bad about that!

My family spent evenings like that - my parents and all four of us kids. I know many of you cherish those same kinds of memories.

It was grand.  I hope you enjoy this and just rest up for the next week, it will be a doozy too.

Mona:  I surely DO remember watching What's My Line with all of my family.  Actually, everyone but Dad.  It was Mom, myself, my two brothers and my sister.  We didn't need all the blood and guts that we are so violently showered with on today's television fare.  It was just fun.  But... not only was that another time... it was another century.  How's that for making ya feel old ?

And, at the end of your post... "it's a doozy!"  Do you remember where THAT saying came from ?  Now, no looking it up on Wikipedia.  Not fair.

Mona, that old gameshow was fun to watch!!  We still have dinner together, talk about our day, and watch TV together (usually a DVD)...and sometimes, esp. during the winter...we will sit and read together after dinner(I read while the kids curl up on the sofa or lay on the floor with a pillow and listen).

Good Morning Karen Anne, I remember watching lots of variety shows - we don't have those anymore...YouTube is cool and all, but surely isn't the same "bonding" experience. Carol Burnette, Ed Sullivan, Glen Campbell, Smothers Brothers...

As for doozy, got to admit I don't know the origins of the word - just the common definition.  I'll ask Leslie before I do a search - she's older than me and knows the most bizarre bits of information like that.

Hi Sonja, Listening is the key to good rapport and connectivity with your family.  You only get such a brief time of living in one house together and lots of people don't come close to making the most of it - I'm glad you and your family have that.

Well, Janine - it tells me you hide your age better than most ;-}

Hi Mona-TV was definitely better years ago that it is now. Reality shows in my opinion are terrible and not the least bit entertaining but it is a business like everything else and they have to appeal to the masses and apparently the masses like that crap. ME give me Lassie, The Waltons all the old shows that had quality and morality. Hope you have a great week.

Mona... many folks say the saying "It's a Doozy"... actually more correctly spelled "Duesy..." comes from the brand of car called the Duesenberg.  In February 1928 the Model J Duesenberg was born.  It created a major sensation in the car industry.  It was capable of 119 mph, and in spite of its smaller engine... no other car could surpass it's power.

This, and many other of its unique features inspired the expression... "It's a Duesy."  Duesenberg - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.

Hi Sharon, got to admit I liked old shows better too...they had heart.

Karen Anne, Leslie didn't know where doozy came from either so thanks for the origins lesson, I like stuff like that.
