What Is a NORCs?
NORC- A Naturally Occurring Retirement Community which offers older adults an opportunity to continue to live in their communities rather than an institutional setting. A NORC is a place, building, development or neighborhood with a sizable senior community. NORCs are eligible for local, state and federal funds. NORCs brings social, health and other services into communities through partnerships among housing unit managers, residents , providers of health services, educational programs, socialization, recreational activities and social services. Some other services may include telephone reasurances calls, housekeeping and personal care assistance. In New York city there are 27 of these communities where the NYC Department for the Aging works to ensure that these NORCs receive various social services.
