I was just reading an e-mail from Inman News this morning. I love to peruse their news, and often get a really good article that shifts my thinking about how I work in Real Estate. Today I found a great article that had a lot of great 'shifts in thinking' for me.
An article on What The Customer Wants was extremely interesting. First a video from Mad Men (one of my favorites) about what the customer wants, was very interesting:
Then a TED Talk by Lenny Rachitsky on Losing Serendipity, which really hit home for me.
Here I thought that Serendipity was in every click I made on the Internet, but after hearing this talk, I can see now that we really do back ourselves onto the 'same ole same ole' corner of validating what we already believe and think. How silly of me to think that I can create a serendipitous experience from the Internet. Lenny Rachitsky is absolutely correct when he tells us that Google knows what you want and serves it up, keeping you following the same path you have been on for as long as you have searched on the same computer. No matter what you are looking for. Deep down I knew that. And yet I always felt as though I was in control of moving in new directions. I really think he is correct.
If you want to shift a bit, give this article a read. And if you have never heard of the Ted Talks, give them a try. Now that is serendipitous!
