Oops! I did it again: Another 30 Day Contest
In August to September of 2010 I participated in an Active Rain blogging contest that I (and I think others) call “30 in 30.” The challenge is to post one blog each day in 30 days straight and the rewards are: you get to hone your blogging skills, you get lots of content out there for your readers and hopefully you attract some business! Oh, and you get points, too, not that it matters ;-)
After last year’s contest, I didn’t think I’d ever do a “30 in 30” again. While it certainly had its benefits, it was a serious time commitment, one that I wasn’t ready to commit to again so soon. And yet, here I am. Today is day 30 and this is my 30th blog (today also happens to be my birthday.....bonus!!)
So how’d I get sucked in? Easy. I spotted a challenge and couldn’t resist. It’s an occupational hazard, I think.
But another, more important reason for doing this contest was due to a very busy summer, I’d gotten out of the habit of blogging...and I needed to get back in it! Blogging gives me the opportunity to research new neighborhoods, discover new businesses, make contacts with local people, learn more about my area than I knew there was to learn, and ultimately become a better real estate agent because of all of the above. To me, it’s a hugely important commitment.
Will I continue to post a blog each and every day? Nope. My better quality blogs are ones I write in draft form, then revisit a day or two later to give a fresh look and edit, and I’d rather have 3 or 4 of those a week than force myself to write something new every day that may or may not be my best work (but kudos to those of you who can crank out quality blogs day after day- you amaze me!!!).
For now, I’m back in the habit of blogging on a regular basis and have a whole list of new topics that I’m excited to write about. If and when I should fall out of the habit again, I know what I need to do. And I just hope that AR will continue to offer these contests for people like me who get busy and fall off the wagon from time to time!
Congrats to all the other 30 in 30 successes out there! Enjoy the weekend :-)
