First Mistake? Admitting I had an exclusive invite. Second Mistake? The FIRST of course...
I love my girlfriends but I swear there are days they need to be smacked upside their dainty little heads. I received a great e-mail September 26th through my ActiveRain account from a curator in Chelsea who invited me to submit my artist portfolio for review. It also included an invitation to their next gala event (so I'm thinking that would be kinda mad cool to attend).
I mentioned in Facebook on my profile wall that I have this thing I'm attending and eventually asked two FB peeps if they wanted to come with me. We joked. I tell them to wear black. We joke some more. No one says they are going so I don't give up the info because it's a private party by invitation only.
Fast forward to today. Today I have to go find a costume for the party and create a bewitching mask to wear. Now everyone is pissed because Oct 6th is 3 days away and I'm going alone. It was the art project for creating a mask that got me outed as to which party I was vaguely chatting about in Facebook. Since I was asked, this is me admitting in public yup - that's the one I'm going to (LOL). Now I have 7 girlfriends squabbling incessantly as to why they should be the ones to come with me and not the 2 original people I asked or any of the others who may check in later on.
Hmm...
Here's my position on why you guys should not be cranky with me when I say NO: If you want to spend some time with me and a bunch of fun, creative people then take me up on my open invitations when I make them. I have to plot and plan my schedule. I'm in the middle of a move... I have NYCC, an album to finish, a Kim Harrison book signing and an ActiveRain get together in Ann Arbor, Readers and Ritas in TX and a NYC Ward Nasse Gallery show to do before Christmas. Time is a precious commodity for me.
Any one of my friends or family members could have contacted me about going to this gallery but no one did... I would prefer to have a side kick to meet and greet new people and explore a gallery I have never visited. It may still happen because I have a photographer buddy and therapist friend I'd like to talk into it so we shall see if I'm still going alone. What I will not do is flip my schedule on its ear for no good reason. I happen to love flipping my schedule on its ear BUT IT MUST BE FOR A GOOD REASON. Fun is a good reason but hen-pecking me is not (LOL).
I love you guys but I'm not really available this morning...
After breakfast I have to get back to handcrafting a "bewitching mask." This is me admitting I have absolutely no idea what the hell I'm doing but I will confess it's been mad fun so far. I'm treating it as a miniature sculpting assignment (LOL). I feel like a three year old with a new art project (happy sigh).
After dinner tonight I'll start posting pages from my sketchbook and maybe a few paintings to tease the people who have been posing for me all summer. They are bugging me for a sneak peek at the next show. I even have some authors up on deck so I've gotta get back to teasing them as well. I happen to love teasing my social media peeps and may be putting them up on the wall too (simply because I can - LOL). Waiting for Stephen, the Minion Blur to pick his fave illustrations... We're still negotiating what to release next so I have to wait for him to get home from school before I post more art.
I love when my kids help me with my blog. ;-)
