Barns in Fines Creek, Waynesville, NC

I'm thankful for all of the farms, barns and silos standing as monuments in Western North Carolina for all of the hardworking people who've come before us and those who continue to work their fields in spite of the overwhelming number of corporate farms who threaten to swallow them up.

Hi Mona,

If these old places could talk , there would be some really good stories from them. Good shot of "days gone by".

Have a great week of selling .

Best, Clint McKie

Mona - It is so easy to forget about the importance of the farmer.  However, at the same time, I am truly amazed at the number of people in this area who still "live off the land".  They grow their own food including raising their own meat.  Like the Alpaca farmers, they spin their own wool and make their own clothes. What a simpler way of life.  I remember when I was a child, my grandmother made clothes for us, shorts, skirts, etc. out of flour sacks!  Of course, today those flour sack skirts would bring a pretty penny in some designer boutique!

Hi Clint,  lots of times the families of these places are still here...with their stories.  You have a great week also.

Hello Cyndi, we are so fortunate to live in this area and you are so right, it is really something the number of people able to provide for themselves with just their hands and the land.

What a perfect picture and setting.  Reminds of the past and appreciation we do have now for the beauty of history and flavor of the old.  Thanks for sharing!

Is this a reminder that farming is a dying profession?  Or is this a reminder that we all need to take a renewed look at how we could contribute to our future?

Hello Connie,  there's also tremendous appreciation for those who continue to work these farms.  The road I was on that day had many, many such sights.

Kristin, you are very welcome, thanks for commenting.

C. Lloyd, I'm going with your second thought!  We all need to support our local farmer's markets and buy the food that is available to us in our own neighborhood.
