Diane, this is a great post. I think the past few years have weeded out the not-so-great or part-time agents. Sellers and buyers need our services today more than ever in this complex market.

It used to be that you could be a good agent and do a good job and that was enough. It was all that it took. Today is a totally different world. With the financial chaos, political problems and national debt in the trillions, our buyers and sellers need us more than ever. They are afraid to buy, afraid not to buy. Want to sell, have to sell, need to sell, They are all over the place and need someone strong, smart and level headed to help them sort through all of it and assist them in making good decisions.

If you are a good agent, well, that's nice, but in our world today, you need to be more than that. Today's buyers and sellers need outstanding agents. Agents that add value to what they are bringing to the table. They need to be educated, informed, reasonable, patient, strong, tireless, sympathetic and above all honest. The rules have changed and the laws and codes have changed right along with it. When working some of these transactions, short sales, foreclosures, and so many more types of sales that we never had to work with before, one small mistake could mean losing the deal or a lot of money for your customer. Sellers especially are in bad positions, upside down in their homes and they do not know which way to turn or the consequences that will face them in the different paths that they can take. They need someone to rely on and that person is YOU! Today, we have to be outstanding. Now more than ever, we have to pull out all the punches and give it 110%. If ever there was a time that we were earning our commissions, it is now! So, let's make our profession proud and let's get out there and help today's homeowner by standing by their side when they need us.

Give them good information and be patient. It must be terrible to lose your home and the emotions and sense of failure they experience must be over whelming. An outstanding agent can help them. We all can be outstanding. So, bring it on. Give a little bit more and you never know whose life you can be saving. That little bit means a whole lot more to so many people in need. I am ready. Are you? Let's go out there and give some outstanding service. We all want to help and in doing so we will all create some wonderful, grateful raving fans!

Beth,

Great post to re-blog. I do agree that today's market needs dedicated, hard-working agents. It needs great agents. I do feel though that some part-time agents get a bad rap in the "dedicated" department. Yes, most part-timers are not dedicated, but I've seen some part-timers more dedicated than full-timers.

You are right, there are some very good part-time agents and not so good full time. In this market I feel buyers and sellers need our expertise more than ever.
