Award-winning Native American flute maker and two-time Native American Music Awards nominee Alex Maldonado will perform at Chandler's Indian Art Market being held this Friday, Saturday and Sunday in downtown Chandler.

 

Alex will be performing with flutes, drums and rattles on Friday night from 6 to 8 p.m. with his son, Nick Maldonado.  In addition to entertainment, the free festival will feature Native American art from artists all over the Southwest. Event hours are:

Friday, October 7  - 3 to 9 p.m.

Saturday, October 8 - 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Sunday, October 9 -Noon to 4 p.m.

 

Authentic art will include jewelry, photography, pottery, paintings, Katsina carvings, sculptures, baskets, weavings, clothing, and tribal arts and crafts. The Arizona Fry Bread Company will be offering traditional Native American favorites and local bands and Indian dance groups will perform throughout the day.  

 

The beauty and essence of native culture will be shared through song and story by Ken Duncan Sr., a member of the San Carlos Apache Tribe, whose use of humor and music helps convey the unique heritage and spirit of the American Indian.

 

There also will be performances by Moontee Sinquah, a champion hoop dancer from the Village of Shungopavi in northern Arizona, whose energetic dance using various hoop designs conveys a story of the elements of life.

 

Contestants in the 2011 Miss Indian Arizona contest will perform Saturday at noon prior to their evening competition at the Chandler Center for the Arts for the title of Miss Indian Arizona. For more information, visit www.chandleraz.gov .

Bob - That sounds like QUITE the event!  I'm not sure we can squeeze it AND The Greek Festival in all in one weekend, though - ugh!
