Canton Township was once a farm community that has grown from a little over 5,000 40 years ago to just under 80,000, as of the 2000 census. Canton Township is just 25 minutes from Detroit and Metro Airport because of Metro Detroit’s great highway system. And it is only 20 minutes to Ann Arbor!
Because Canton Township was a farming community it has many older and historical homes that have been restored and renovated. Canton Township is now a different community from the 1960’s. The new residential homes and condominiums gives it a whole different feel. (I remember walking through farmers fields at Canton Center and Ford Rd. It is now a shopping center!) But to explain Canton Township real estate better you have to realize that starting from the 1970’s Canton started growing. The farms were sold off to make room for Canton subdivisions.
From 1980 to 2005 the next 25 years Canton grew tremendously. Canton Township real estate became more valuable because of the building boom. It grew steadily westward from I-275. Canton homes got bigger and more expensive. In the 1970’s and 1980’s there were a lot of Canton ranches and tri-levels built. But in the 1990’s and 2000’s Canton real estate changed. The primary home styles became colonials and cape cods. Most new Canton homes that were being built were now over 2000 square feet with 3-4 bedrooms. There were homes being built in Canton that were over 4000 square feet.
Canton Township has become a well organized community with shopping districts, parks, and beautiful subdivisions due to a good master building plan. So if you have a Michigan relocation in your future take a look at Canton real estate and homes. It’s a safe city with a good school system. It may be just what you are looking for!
