Creative Builder got around the strict guidelines!

When a local builder/property owner wanted to rebuild where her existing building was falling down, the city said that she could only repair it since it was too close to the road with new easement restrictions.  This didn't stop her!  She had to support the building with 2x4's along the outside walls so she could keep the building in place while she rebuilt the foundation.  When it was time to rebuild the walls, she supported the roof in a similiar fashion.  Then she rebuilt the roof while part of the existing roof was still in place.

I was hoping that she was going to tear down the little building that has been an eyesoar for years!  But it turned out that she knew was she was doing and now she has a cute little apartment for some rental income for her in her retirement years.

This goes to show that where there is a will, there is a way.  This project and the remodeling of the adjacent house has been going on for over a year and it is coming together nicely.

Good for her.  Government can be a real pain in the ass.  Many years ago when I was young I worked a construction job where basically we gutted and replaced almost an entire building, but never tore it down.  It was to get tax credits for restoring an historic building.

Cute! When there is a will there is a way. Good for them that they could get rid of the eyesore and create something pleasant!

Sam -- What a great story of being willing to take the time to do something the right way - and work around the governmental red tape.  Thanks for sharing!

I wish I would have taken a picture when the roof was being suspended in mid-air while they were putting the walls in.  That was a sight to see.

This builder was working with a city engineer that really didn't want her to rebuild on that site since the original building was so close to the road.  He wouldn't let her cantilever a small jut out above the foundation on the back of the building for a closet that would not have increased the original footprint of the foundation either.

I am sure that the city is happy with the way the building turned out and I am sure that she has quite a reputation with them now down at city hall!

Wow, that actually turned out to be a cute little house.  I love that you have during and after photos. Good for her and her investment income. -Kasey
