Reaching The Unreachable Person

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

Pulling ReinsI had been randomly listening to financial talking head Dave Ramsey on the radio the other day and the woman caller who saved and invested wisely had a male friend who was a spendthrift and carefree if not irresponsible with money he acquired. She wanted to encourage him to be more wise with his resources, but despite valiant attempts all her words fell on deaf ears. It made me think about

            Reaching The Unreachable Person.

You know, the stubborn mule type. You can't seem to connect with them. Dave had great advice about pointing out they are not a victim and myths that come out of their mouth, but beyond that YOU just lead an EXAMPLE life.

The answer to "reaching an unreachable person" is ONLY THEY CAN CHANGE THEMSELVES and you "influence them" best you can by leading an exemplary life yourself.

Maybe some day their light bulb will go on because of you.

Just BE THERE FOR THEM. It is all you really can do.

I alike it to trying to reason with a fool. if someone simply has no comprehension of what you are talking about you are wasting your breath. You can reason with someone who doesn't share your opinion but you simply cannot with someone who lacks understanding, intelligence or possibly a closed mind.

OH well and for D Ramsey - lol "financial guru"??? I have yet to see it. I don't know the man but from the VERY few comments I have seen, his info was so bad to the end user I actually wrote him, challenged him on his reckless comments without all the facts and guess what... The master didn't even bother to respond. I guess when someone with a depth of knowledge in his area of "expertise" makes an outreach he doesn't respond to them, only those who are financially challenged I guess...

Peace

US Mortgages: Without any kind of openness I agree people turn into fools and will never achieve understanding. I can't figure out why Dave Ramsey elicits that love or hate feeling about him. Maybe it is that "guru" status people either believe in or can't stand.

Sharon: Males can be stubborn. You're not thinking of anyone in particular now are you? LOL

Now WHY would you think a thing like that? LOL

P.S. I am the mule in that pic with her feet planted firmly in the ground and that male I was referring is the male TRYING to change HER mind without MUCH success. Smiling

Sharon: I think a man can argue or a woman can be right and he should just be quiet. SMILE.

Gary, this is a great post and I could not agree more about changing others. Being present and realizing there is only one person I can change are some very freeing concepts. Thanks so much.

Gary, I just had an appraiser call me a couple of days ago, and the lender is giving him 10 days to get his done!  My seller asked why it's so long, and I guess I'll just forward him your post! (The last paragraph pretty much spells it out).

And, P.S. You are now an official Million Dollar Baby!!!

Congratulations--and you're still just as humble. (I loved Sharon Lee's post aboutcha....didn't know all that PERSONAL STUFF).

You are so right about that.  The more you pull a stubborn mule the harder it resists.  Yet you put a carrot in front of him, he will walk continously till he gets it.  That is the exact same thing with stubborn people.  Don't force your words on them, lead the way with our words but just telling hthem of your success on the way.  Sooner or later he will get off is butt and start to walk towards that carrot in front of him.

Gary -- While going through posts on the Dave Ramsey group, I found this post today ---- it's so true not only in personal finance, our real estate but truly in our lives -- you know, the real world.   It really is about living like no one else so you can live like no one else.
