Building a Wordpress Site Isn't So Hard After All

If building a Wordpress site is something you're thinking of doing, I say go for it! building a wordpress site

There are lots of choices available with template websites, but building a website on Wordpress couldn't be simpler.  In fact, I find it easier than trying to customize most template sites. Most templates have a learning curve with them because you still have to figure out how and where to add your original content, how to optimize the website (if possible), point it to your domain name etc. etc.

There are tons of free tutorials online as to how to build a Wordpress site and the learning curve is no greater than when customizing a template site.

Check out the 5 main reasons why I enjoy building a Wordpress site!

Is your website built on Wordpress or is it a template?

Nishika, you are right - it is not SO HARD, it's the first move one has to make - to commit to do something. (I, for one, have known this fact for a long time and have not yet created my WordPress blog-site!)

so many think it takes a rocket scientist to orchestrate a website. It takes a little practice but now a days, its really not difficult. It's fun and creative.......just have to have it 'formatted"  first....ideas for creative presentations..,,, I have done many webs. Theyre fun for everyone....

I agree! When I first downloaded wordpress I asked myself, "There has to be an easier way" but if everything is easy then everyone would do it. Word Press does take some time to get comfortable with but after that its a walk in the park!

Great Post!

Praful, the hardest part is always taking ACTION, but it's also how we get the greatest reward.  If only there were more hours in the day (then we would probably get even less done).

Hi Mike, I agree.  Maybe its the inner geek in me but I really do enjoy building a Wordpress site.  It takes a little practice, like with anything, but I think most people would get the hang of it sooner than they think.

Hey Katerina, thanks for stopping by! It took me a couple of years to really see the advantages and all the features WP has to offer because my Point2 site was doing so well.  But I'm definitely glad I made the transition.

Thanks John, I think most technology is a little intimidating at first but you're exactly right...once you get comfortable with it, it actually can be fun!

I never thought of it this way, that even the template websites have a learning curve, so why not do the same learning in Word Press? What theme have you used for your Word Press website?

by the way, i stopped by your website, the Listen Now article has programing language type writing, looks like something may have gone wrong.

Thanks for the encouragement!

One thing to note is the difference between a WordPress.com website and a WordPress.org website.

WordPress.com:

  • Free
  • Hosted by WordPress
  • Limited, though growing, number of templates
  • Some vital features or custom designs cost extra

WordPress.org:

  • Free
  • Hosted on your own domain/host
  • Unlimited number of templates and plugins
  • More customization available
  • Easier to embed IDX plugins

I just finished building a WordPress.org website for an agent in one week!  It can be done, but I really only recommend a professional build a .org site because of the PHP coding involved.

Asif, Thank you for stopping by the website!  We've corrected that error...thanks for pointing it out.

Thank you for pointing out the differences Kayla.  I'm not a professional web designer, but I have built a number of Wordpress.org sites on my own without doing any PHP coding.

A lot of whether or not it is easy, depends on your age!  I was 50 before I heard 99% of the terminology used in the computer world!

I believe that the ease is deceptive. Yes, you can create a website, but whether a templated or Wordpress, having created a website and having a website that can make maoney, is a huge difference.

And if you want a really performance horse, it is not what majority of people can do in their spare time.

There is way ore in a definition of a good website, that even having something that you can upload. It is design of a website (not the nterface, but the skeleton), and many other things that untrained person can't do.

It can be a starting point, though

I bought one and have done the basic setup but I'm really thinking about letting someone more experienced do the major set up and then I can take it from there.  We'll see how it goes.

It's not hard when you know what you are doing. I spent 3 full days knocking my head on my computer screen because I didn't know how to get started. Now, I'm gliding fine after my husband showed me how.

For some, it's not tough. But I'm not building an average WP site either. It will look quite unlike WP when I'm said and done.

Woody, I totally agree.  I have a baby boomer real estate friend who has me on speed dial to translate some of the "foreign" language that she hears when learning technology.

Jon, thanks for your comment.  We're on the same page as well.  I am not suggesting in anyway that it's easy to create and sustain a money making website (Wordpress or not). But I am a big proponet of learning, at least, the basics of how to do something yourself before outsourcing it to someone else.  And in the case of a really basic, entry level website--Wordpress is a good start.

Lloyd, it really is hard to get it all done but I'm happy to serve as a friendly reminder:-)

Hi Jeanne and Ralph, I'll be the first to admit that I work with VAs (virtual assistants) to quickly move things off my To Do list!

Hello Loreena, we look forward to seeing your new site! You're right..there are lots of different looks and feels to a standard WP site.  I use WP for squeeze pages, a blog and even a "regular" static page type of site and have hired help for things like the graphics. And it certainly takes a tutorial of some type even to get a basic WP site up, but not unlike the investment in learning that one has to commit to in order to turn a templated site into something "different".
