No Matter How Colorful the Character - Take Care of Business First!

By

One of the most interesting parts about being in real estate is the opportunity to meet colorful characters and there is no doubt that one of the MOST colorful characters has been Frisco. However, no matter how charming and talented the folks are that you are getting ready to work with in real estate - don’t forget to take care of business first.

Before we had a chance to review the Agency Disclosure, Frisco gave me some technical assistance from the top of my computer screen. Funny thing is, he actually made more sense than most of the “help” calls I’ve been on!

Neither Leslie nor I had ever really interacted with feathered folks much before. Well…ever, if the truth be known. I don’t know which section of the Agency Disclosure Frisco and Leslie were talking about here, but it seems intense. She told me later that Frisco said no other agent had ever reviewed the Working With Real Estate Agents brochure with him before.

Because he paid attention and since he is a “bright” dude, Frisco had no questions about the differences between Seller’s , Buyer’s and Dual Agencies. Because this is such important information, we always do a really thorough job of explaining it. Frisco listened carefully while I tried to point out that an Exclusive Buyer Agency Agreement would be the only way MoonDancer Realty would be willing to work with him while he was deciding upon an appropriate piece of real estate here in the mountains. Sure, he seems like an honest bird and all, but business is business!

It seems like we were all on the same page. Frisco wanted the business taken care of upfront too, that way we could get on with the “fun” part of finding his piece of mountain paradise.

After all, we’ve all worked with colorful characters before and because of their charm neglected to take care of business by getting that Buyers Agency Agreement signed first…

Leslie and Frisco look all cozy...  you seem a little timid holding your arm out for him.   Made me laugh and I needed a laugh today.  AT&T really got my goat today.

What a fun way to talk about the Agency disclosure Mona! How did the office manager feel about having Frisco around?

Good Morning Tammy! Timid? Really? Nope, I didn't feel intimidated but this could be shortly after Tom and Judy said "If he looks like he's going to bite you, drop your arm". Cautious, deliberating, judicious, thoughtful - but I wasn't scared a bit.  Plus, I obviously was driving home a point in this conversation with Frisco.

Hi Andrea, the Office Manager was intensely curious.  She spent several seconds with her ears pinned to the back of her head everytime Frisco or Lulu contributed to the conversation.  Leslie and I were both very proud of what a gracious hostess she was since she'd never experienced anything like that in her life.  Congratulations on your offer by the way and I'm also sorry :( to have missed you on the phone.

Frisco's Secretary/Publicity Agent (Judy)

Tammy, you nailed it! Leslie jumped right up when I offered an up-close encounter with Frisco. Mona...well, she got up a tiny bit more slowly. My husband told me later that I shouldn't mention that 'Drop your arm' business. But Frisco and Lulu adored both Mona and Leslie. And as soon as Frisco was aboard Mona, Mona was just fine.

To Mona's point, we had not been given information on Buyer's Agent before Mona (thankfully) came along. I cannot express how helpful/informative/patient/fun Mona has been! It's a world of difference between discussions with a SELLER'S agent and a BUYER'S agent!!!

Trip to NC to look at houses: $600
Toys and food for parrots during trip: $200
Shrimp and Grits at Tupelo Honey Cafe: $21
Mona and Leslie: PRICLESS!!!!

Hi Judy, what a nice surprise!  Yes, the whole drop your arm speech gave me a momentary uh oh moment, but mama didn't raise no chicken!  We think it is a priceless opportunity to associate with you also and we are on vigilant overdrive to find the perfect abode for you, Tom, Lulu and Frisco!
