It’s All In The Cloud!
I’m sure most of you reading this have seen that commercial on TV for one of the cable providers, showing the couple at the airport who have just been notified of a delay at the terminal and they pick up their laptop and say they want to watch some gossip TV show and they both say “to the cloud”.
Cloud computing is all the rage now, from scheduling your favorite TV shows via the internet, to cloud computing, and now cloud printing.
Apple is in the process of introducing iCloud, where you basically are able to sync all of your various documents, photos, emails, etc….across all your various techie devices like your iPhone, iPad, & MacBook Pro & Mac by uploading it to the iCloud, then any time any of your devices are plugged in and connected to the iCloud, your devices are automatically synced and you do not have to enter information on multiple devices.
Google has Google Cloud print that connects your printers to the web, thereby making your home and work printers available to you and users of your choosing, and allowing your to print from various applications you use every day.
And now Kodak has introduced Kodak.com/go/cloudprinting, a free service that assigns a unique email address to your printer, so that you can easily send emails, photos, and documents to your printer from anywhere via the unique email address and the printer will automatically print the attachments for you and will be waiting for you whenever your ready.
I sit back now and think of all the times over the last 11 + years that I have been in real estate where cloud printing could have saved me valuable time. How many times have I or another REALTOR sat down with a new client and you are taking a bunch of notes on what they are looking for and you tell them, thank you, now let me get to my computer, set up a search for you and print out or email you some real estate listings. If I would have had cloud printing then, I could have had my computer in front of me, created their search on the fly in front of them, then instantly printed the results and handed to them, versus asking them to wait 15-2o minutes while you go work on a search.
How many times over the years where I was in a hurry to get a contract printed out to get initials and signatures on it, where I had to go into the office, log on to a computer, print out the necessary documents, then either fax or scan and email them. If I would have had the cloud printing then, I would could have even sent it directly to a clients printer.
To up the anti even more, Kodak has introduced a new line of printers and scanners specifically designed for Cloud printing, there by not having to program or install additional drivers, etc…to your existing printers. I for one will be looking into the various options available and utilizing the best possible scenario.
