Snow in October. Say it is'nt so !!!! Get ready

Now most of you know we have already been blessed with our first snow depending on where you live.

With power outages reported some where around the 875,000 homes with out it and schools closed in some areas it's not to early to take a few precautions.

Now where I live we can still see the grass  snow in October

But in other parts of New England there is no grass in site. If this is any indication of what's to come maybe you should start getting your car ready now.

                    1) Winter oil change and service: This is a great time to have your mechanic take a look at your tires, cooling system, charging system, belts and so on.

                    2) Get a box: Get a box for your trunk. In it you should have a roadside kit which includes flares and jumper cables. This can be purchased at just about any auto parts store or your big box stores.

                    3) Add to the box you should have a small first aid kit, small fire extinguisher, flash light, oil, windshield washer fluid, anti-freeze, extra gloves.

                    4) Blanket: This is a must for those in New England. For those who do not know a blanket can be a very useful tool should you become stuck. Throw the blanket under the tire that is spinning. The blanket in most cases will give you the traction you need to get out of the bad situation. It will actually take the space between the ice and your tire.

Remember car in park, stuff blanket then slowly try rocking, the blanket will work it's way under to assist you

                                          SAFETY FIRST

Because boys and girls in New England you just never know !!!

Hi Don,  That storm seemed to share some flakes with many cities.  I got about 6 inches at my home in Colorado last week.  It was melted and gone by the next day.  One of the benefits of being Mile High.  Stay warm.  Good tips for preparing your car.

Don, this is a great list of what to have in your car to be prepared for winter storms and getting stuck.  We are in a similar situation, we have had snow but I can still see the grass although it is no longer green.  Hope you have a wonderful winter!  --Krystal

I never thought of using the blanket that way. I always assumed it was to keep warm, but your idea is great.

Don good points about items for the car /truck especially when showing homes in out of the way places.  Think I'll hang around Albuquerque and enjoy fall a few more weeks then pray for snow.  We are in dire need of moisture being well under 6 inches for the year.  Best regards from the Q
