The last day or so, a message has popped up periodically on my computer: "New updates are available. Do you wish to update now." Invariably the message pops up in the middle of composing a blog entry and if I choose to do the update, the system usually has to be rebooted thus loosing my hard sought words and POINTS. As a result, I've closed the pop up window a couple times. Finally, the opportune time came tonight and I clicked through for the update. Ah ha! Internet Explorer 7 (I think that's what it was) began to miraculously install on my system. Momentarily I wondered if some remote robot was taking over my machine and installing horrendous device killing and data devouring viruses, but I blew that thought away quickly. Minutes later I'm being prompted to read the tutorial and get acclimated to the new IE system. You know, I just got used to the look of the last upgrade and now they're changing everything around again.
Some time ago, Jim Cronin or one of his cronies did a review on how wonderful Mozilla or Firefox was. I felt left out. My wimpy IE didn't have tabs to flit from web page to web page. The MLS doesn't work so well outside of IE either, so changing over really was not an option. I feigned sadness knowing my product was second rate! Not so anymore. The upgrade has tabs! Lots of tabs! I used to minimize the web page and open IE again to go to another web page. That's no longer necessary. As I type this there's a file tab with Active Rain on the label. If I want to go somewhere else simultaneously, I can type in the URL and a second file tab appears with that site's name on it. I can flit back and forth with the big guys now!
The new version of IE also has an automatic RSS feed system. Just click the icon and the site is added. I've "gotta" try that one out and see if it's better than the reader I have already. They also promised more clarity on the screen and so far I think they've really done that. The words are not nearly so fuzzy even in smaller type which is a boon to boomers like myself! Everything from before is still there, plus a few new little gadgets to work with I think they even said something about add ons in the tutorial. So far, I'm pleased with the upgrade. Maybe firefox will be given a run for its money!
