You've heard the title "Old ... Never Die..." before - when Douglas MacArthur uttered those words - of Old Soldiers - I can't help but think of the phrase when it comes to how realtors leave this field. You rarely see people just leave - Instead you may hear of a realtor who has struggled long enough and has decided to take on a full time job. But rather than hang up their license, they tell people that they're "still doing Real Estate". Or you may hear of a realtor who has moved away to a retirement community - but somehow they're still selling in their old neck of the woods (I'm full of trite sayings this morning ~ sorry! )
And sometimes a Real Estate Agent can do that successfully and sometimes they DO NOT - It's hard to give up something that you love to do - Or it can be hard to walk away from a career that really never got off the ground to begin with - There are expenses that were incurred for licensing etc etc - And wouldn't it be better to just see what may come your way than just walk away? Better for whom?
The great thing about this career is that it can be built in any way you want. There are some very successful part time realtors who fit this career into their lifestyle well. There are also some very talented semi retired realtors who could run circles around (oops another idiomatic expression - they're just flowing today - sorry) other realtors in the field.
I guess the real question for consumers who need real estate assistance is what type of realtor would you be looking for? Are you concerned about experience, understanding of market trends, commitment to the field, KNOWLEDGE about what is happening in their local real estate market, and availability within reason 24x7?
Consumers have to tread carefully when hiring a real estate agent. Ask the hard questions, Know that the agent you choose has the qualifications and experience you should expect - This is of enormous significance when you think about what you're trying to accomplish - one of THE MOST expensive transactions of your life! Ask the questions, expect professionalism, and look for a track record and you'll be happy you did !
