Are there robot toilets anywhere in Canada?

robot toiletI came across this topic about robotic toilets and find it quite amusing. Imagine using sophisticated robot technology just to handle crap. I read about these toilets from Japan, US and China. And I just wondering, are there any robot toilets available in this country?

There are many models and features available in the market today, but the most common feature is the toilet’s ability to “clean itself”. Example of these are the robot toilets found in New York. They built 2 pay-per-use toilets in a busy 34th Street, each with a capability to lock themselves after you leave, to clean and disinfect automatically for 2 minutes. Great idea to have some of these on our countless public leisure areas, instead hiring someone to clean after us, don’t you think?

Other features include monitor screens to watch TV or videos, having thermic seats (aye, never will your bottom feel the cold china ever!), laser detectors (which will automatically flush after you stand), and automatic bidets -if you can trust the toilet with your personal hygiene, why not?

More intelligent toilets can also have voice recognition (hmmm...for blocking intruders?). Prototype models are also out in the market designed for bed ridden or sick patients; where the robot (about the size of R2-D2) rolls near the patient, props out the seat or the urinal catheter for use then rolls away to clean itself. There are also doctor-toilets coming out in the market today which can measure up glucose in urine, blood pressure and weight. These features are pretty awesome specially most of us have difficulty dealing with human waste. However, these toilets also come with a price tag. Most robot toilets available in Japan worth $750 and up per unit, while its China counterpart is around $500 on an average.

Of course, there a  there are also some flip side of the toilet. Unless the toilet is designed to conserve water, the volume flush water will me more than the usual. In a manual flush, you can determine if your deed needs little or more flushing. Robot toilets, on the other hand, does not have the common sense about saving water, will tend to irregardless-ly flush in the maximum amount of water, since there is little human intervention to save water.

In the end, new technology worth trying out to make our lives better. Maybe we could have some of those toilet gizmos in Canada and see how they can fare?
