Eight Steps to Keeping in Touch

Sussie Says....Even if you can't afford to join Happy GrassHopper at this time. You should always incorporate these eight ideas. I have used them for many years and it worked for me. I just joined Happy GrassHopper two weeks ago to give me more time to concentrate on other areas of my business.

Original content by Happy Grasshopper

In the 2011 Summer Issue of Chicago REALTOR, there was an article called Maintaining Your Personal Touch.  It reminded you that building relationships is the best way to win sales and warned you not to let technology get in the way.  I couldn't possibly agree more.

The good news is that keep-in-touch marketing is no longer a choice between having to do it all yourself and settling for canned, stale content.  Email Marketing Services like HappyGrasshopper.com are designed to free you from that 'lesser of two evils' decision.

Here's how we handle Relationship Marketing at Happy Grasshopper, how you can do it too, in eight easy steps.

  • First, use email.  It's inexpensive, easy and better still is not interruptive for your recipients - they can read it at their convenience.

  • Second, eliminate all the fancy borders and artfully designed templates that frame your email messages.  They won't open automatically in the majority of email clients and simply scream "you don't need to read this".  They're also a pain on smart phones, where a growing amount of email is read.

  • Third, keep your messages short.  People are busy and won't read all of what you're writing anyway.  If you've got something important to say, get on with it.  (For tips on what to say, visit HappyGrasshopper.com)
Fourth, ask questions.  You'll be surprised how many conversations are started with a simple "Did you see this?" followed by an interesting tidbit from the news of the day.

  • Fifth, write informally.  Don't make your email look like you're trying to win a Pulitzer Prize.  Think 8th grade reading level, trust me.

  • Sixth, and this is a hard one, never talk about yourself, your industry or your listings.  Just make  friends.  Send interesting, timely content.  This means it's time to chuck your file of template letters and that's okay.  It'll be cold again soon and you'll need to start a fire.

  • Seventh, put your picture in your email signature, even if you're holding a cat.  We all respond to faces.  This should be the only color in your email.  It draws the eye and helps them remember you, even if they don't reply.

  • Eighth, make it easy to get in touch with you and connect on social media.  Include links to your Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn accounts in every message you send.

These are easy to do and you are up to the task.  The hard thing is being consistent over long periods of time.  In this business consistency is perceived professionalism.  Set your send schedule and stick to it.

Good suggestions, and you're right, consistency is key in this business.  If nothing else it lets people know you are still in business...
