I am thankful for the ocean. Iwas lucky enough to grow up near the ocean and I love to hear the waves crashing when relaxing on the beach. I love the food that the ocean provides and being able to swim in the ocean. The ocean covers 3/4 of the eaths surface. The ocean and the land beneath offers many natural resources for energy. These resources are non-renewable energy resources such as oil and gas. The other is renewable energy resources such as windy energy, wave energy, ocean current energy and offshore solar energy.
A few key thigns the ocean does for us:
- The ocean absorbs more than 50 times more carbon than the atmosphere.
- It absorbs 30-50% of the carbon monoxide from burning fossil fuels.
- Ocean produces 70-80% of the air we breathe.
- Ocean provides $21 trillion in food and other benefits.
- Ocean provides jobs.
- Ocean provides some towns with tourist destinations.
- Ocean provides about 25% of the protein that feeds the worlds population.
- Ocean moderates temperature.
- Provides activities such as swimming, bodyboarding and surfing.
Without the ocean the world would fall into many problems and wouldnot be able support life as we know it today.
