The 57th Annual Christmas Parade will start at 10 am  on  the morning of December 3rd, 2011  in St. Augustine Fl. The traditional Parade route will travel south from the Mission of Nombre De Dios along San Marco Avenue past the Castillo de San Marcos and St. Augustine’s historic waterfront, turn west at the Bridge of Lions and pass Constitution Square using  Cathedral Street, continue past Flagler College on Cordova Street, ending at the St. Augustine Visitors Center.

This year’s list already exceeds 70 major groups. One of the most anticipated returning parade marchers include the Newfoundland Club of Florida with their beautiful pets for the 18th year. Last year, everyone enjoyed the Ancient City Auto Club with their antique cars as well as a local Volkswagen Club with their VW Beetles, Vans & Wagons, the St. Johns County Sheriff’s Office fleet of vehicles, including the Motorcycle Brigade, the National Park Service with Smokey the Bear, The US Customs Service with their Interceptor Boat, The Alligator Farm, our own Historic Horse Carriages, the green and orange Old Town Trolley & bright red  Ripley’s Sight Seeing Trains and of course Santa riding in the City of St. Augustine’s Fire Ladder Truck # 47.

What is a parade without the marching bands of the local high schools, the local cub scout packs, period costumes marchers dressed as our founder, Pedro Menendez from early 1565 Spain and the Timucuan Indians, the 1776 Revolutionary Period celebrating freedom and some Civil War era soldiers & sailors as well as a few Active Duty Military men and women in uniform. Naturally there are Pirates & Maidens, as St Augustine’s history is rich with Pirate lore and the home of the Pirate & Treasure Museum.

Leading off the parade will be the 12th Annual Reindeer Run, benefiting The Young Life and the teenagers in St. Augustine.

The 2010 Parade winners were:

* Best Overall  - Ripley's Sightseeing Trains

* Most unique - Maiden's Pub.

* Best Christmas theme - St. Augustine Tea Party.

* Best high school band - St. Augustine High School.

* Best middle school band - Switzerland Point.

* Honorable mention - St. Augustine Alligator Farm.

Come out and enjoy the sights & sounds of the 57th Christmas Parade with your friends and neighbors.
