Heart shaped stone held out in the palm of 2 handsMake Purchases That Make A Difference

If you’ve read my blog at all, or know me personally, then you know that I’m a big proponent of giving to others in every sense; I love to give people gifts that I know they want or need, and I also love to give to non-profit organizations. So, you can imagine how excited I was to find some online shopping resources that allow you to make purchases at your favorite stores, while donating to a non-profit organization of your choice! It’s truly the best of both worlds!

Donate To Your Favorite Non-profit Without Spending Any Additional Money

We all make purchases for ourselves, and others, throughout the year. So… if you’re going to spend the money anyway, why not make your gift really count? I’ve put together a small list of online donation malls/charity malls that have hundreds of stores to choose from, most of which we all make purchases from already. The best part is, the stores will donate a portion of your purchase to the non-profit organization of your choice, without costing you a penny more. How cool is that?

What Stores Can I Expect To Find?

So you might be thinking, “yah, sounds good Gina, but do they really have stores that I’d want to buy something from?”. The answer is ABSOLUTELY. Here’s a small sample of the stores you’ll find:

Kohls Gap Macys
NetFlix Overstock.com PetSmart
Walmart Amazon Expedia
HP Sams Club Target
iTunes Barnes & Noble Verizon
Game Stop Harry & David Best Buy

Online Donation Malls/Charity Malls

iGive.com:

This online shopping mall donates up to 26% of your purchase back to your favorite charity, and there are over 900 stores to choose from. There are also coupons and promo codes that you can use when you checkout, to save money on purchases.

GoodSearch.com:

This site is awesome, and probably my favorite, because it offers so many ways for you to easily donate to a non-profit of your choice, and they’ve already raised over $8 million for charities! GoodSearch.com serves as an online donation mall, but it also doubles as a search engine and is powered by Yahoo. Donations are made when you simply use it to make an online search for anything. You can even install their search bar, and use it instead of Google, Bing or others. You can also donate up to 6% of your purchase to your non-profit group by dining out- restaurants vary by area, and the site has a search feature for that as well.

ShopDonations.com:

Much like iGive.com, this online donation shopping mall allows you to sign up for free, choose the non-profit group of your choice, and then painlessly donate for shopping at your favorite retail stores. However, this site promotes only 300 brand name retailers and offers up to 15% of your purchase as a donation.

Shop And Donate To Specific Causes

GreaterGood.com:

This site is a portal to many different sub sites, where you can really focus giving to a charity that is close to your heart. Check out 2 of my favorites below, as examples.

TheHungerSite.com:

This site, just as theanimalrescuesite.com below, is part of the Greater Good Network, and all purchases made on the site provide food to those in need, such as the elderly, families living in poverty here in the U.S., as well as over 12 million men, women and children in Africa that are literally starving to death. IMPORTANT TIP- While you’re on the site, click on the Facebook share button, to help spread the word by placing a badge on your Facebook wall.

TheAnimalRescueSite.com:

If you’re an animal lover like me, then you’ll absolutely love this site! Not only do your purchases provide food and shelter for rescued animals, but you can also send e-greeting cards and simply “click to give”, which are both free to do, and also provide donations to help save homeless and shelter animals. IMPORTANT TIP- While you’re there, make sure to sign up for the daily e-mail reminders, so you can click to give for FREE everyday!

CharityMall.com:

This online shopping and donation mall also has hundreds of top retailers to choose from, but the donations are made specifically to fund cancer research. It’s very straight forward and easy to use, just as the others listed above; Search for a store of your choosing or a product category, make your purchase as you normally would online, and all proceeds are donated to fund cancer research.

Giving Is Actually A Selfish Act

There is no better feeling than the one you get when someone’s eyes light up, and you realize that they are honestly filled with happiness and gratitude for what they’ve just received! So, yes, in some respects, it’s almost a selfish act, to give ; ) Not only that, but developing an awareness of the needs of others, and taking the time to do something about it expands your consciousness and your soul, and deepens your sense of humanity. I honestly believe that if we choose to ignore the suffering of others or live without awareness, we are just wasting our days here on earth, and are not fulfilling our life’s purpose.

How Can You Find A Legitimate Non-Profit Organization To Donate To?

If you’re unsure of what charity you’d like to donate to, or if you’re concerned about the scandals that we’ve all heard about in the news, there is a resource that can help you- CharityNavigator.com. This site reviews and confirms the validity and intentions of non-profit groups. It also gives you great tips about how to determine the legitimacy of a charitable organization and what to look out for.

Gina-I haven't read your blog until today, but, I like your spirit and thanks for the links. Even though the last several years have been tough  for people in our industry we still need to find a way to reach out and help those that have less.

Hi Adrian,

Thanks so much! Yes, I agree. There is always someone less fortunate, and if we're going to give gifts to our loved ones anyway, why not take the opportunity to make a difference & impact the world in a positive way?

I hope you had a very Merry Christmas & that the new year brings you health, happiness & prosperity!
