what a great, personal post. We all will have our challenges this year and the frest start, though very symbolic, is a good reminder that we can create change when ever we want.
I never was a gym rat and actually hated going to the gym, but it took me a while to experience the peace and the release you describe. The gym I go to is fantastic and if it closed, I would be devastated. Good luck in your search!
Cherimie, a great post. It's a new year an once again I'll commit to an excercise program the big change this year will be if I stick with it all year long. I'll wish both of us "good luck".
My heart would absolutely break if my gym closed. I am a group class-a-holic! Good luck finding a new gym.
Good luck on your hunt for a new gym. My most used piece og workout gear just broke and I'm already going through withdrawl :(
The gym is not my favorite place - but I love the results of the hard work and dedication. It doesn't matter where we are or what we do. Commitment tends to yield results. I hope that you get everything you're looking forward to.
Happy New Year! 2012 is a HUGE year. President election, Olympics in London and the myth of 2012, the end of the world.
Enjoy!
Ohhhh, I feel your pain. I "lost" my wonderful old gym when I moved to Spokane over five years ago. I haven't found one in this area that suited me . . .but as I write that I see it might just be an excuse! :) Anyway, great post and I find it hard to believe you look bad even at your worst! Happy New Year!
Cherimie, Time alone is of ultimate importance to my sanity. The gym is not where I get it.. but I have a 1/4 mile circle here on the farm that I use.. getting 2 to 3 miles of walking and using hand held small weights as I walk sure does help me to be a nicer person. Hope you find your new gym soon.
I find my sanity at my gym. I have that appointment on my schedule 5 days a week. It is a fairly large facility. I put in my headphones and get in my cardio. I work out at a facility Albert Pujols use to go to, before he left us, and he had his headphones in, did his thing and people left him alone! Get out there and find that gym otherwise you will lose your sanity!
Love your article. So well written and fun to read. I can imagine that change for you must be like changing hair stylist. I have had mine for over 20 years and can't imagine having to change...good luck and here's to a great year.
Hi Cherimie - Haha - don't be so hard on yourself ;) Great post.
I know there are Planet Fitness locations in SC - not sure if they are close to you, but thats my gym. They advertise as a "Judgement Free Zone" - and they are like $10 a month!
Your post was written with humor and inspiration for all! I am on my way to the gym! BTW, it is everything you are looking for in your new gym.
Cherimie - And that's why I like to walk alone and practice yoga at home. We need to switch the "people person" button to off every now and then and reclaim our sanity before we turn it back to the on position.
I totally understand that. I don't know how many times I've said I have to lose weight before I start going to a gym. lol Pitiful as it sounds, I'm not the only one. I have a shoulder injury that prevents me from doing almost anything right now, even bowling on the Wii last night with the kids was excruciating, but I'm having surgery next month. I already have my crude home gym in the dungeon basement set up for when I can start working out again. Good luck in finding your new "home."
Cherimie - I love working out in group classes at the gym though if I am thinking and in my own head I have managed to even unintentionally ignore neighbors as I concentrate on my workout. I guess it depends on what mood I'm in.
Good luck on finding a new job and Happy New Year!
Happy New Year Cherimie! It is so important to have an outlet- outside of work- to maintain sanity!!! I hope you find your new one soon!
I pretty much just needed to comment on the blog because I love Richard Simmons comparisons. Too few and far between! Feel the burn!! :)
My gym is my happy place too. I'm sorry you are losing yours. Happy New year.
