MEMED??? I've been "Memed"!!

MEMED??  What the heck is that???

I read about this "meme" thing on Mary McKnight's blog, and just thought it was something that was going on in the outer world of blogging.  But I see it's now made it's way here into the rain puddles of Active Rain.

I've been tagged by none other than Mr. Moo-Man, Angus Woodbury.  Thank you Moo!!   ;-)

I was told I need to write about 5 things most people don't know about me.  What 5 things?  Are there 5 things about me that I can actually tell people?  Hmmmm, well here goes:

Ann's Childhood pic1)  I was the 6th generation of my family born in Clermont, Florida, and my ancestors were the founders of that town.  Large sections of Clermont have been built up on land owned by my family many years ago.  I've got 2 pictures of 5 generations of us in the pictures.  One of these was run in the local newspaper when I was born.  My mom, my grandfather, my great-grandmother, and my great-great grandmother, plus me, are all in those pictures.  I remember both of my great and great-great grandmothers, so they were alive for a number of years after I was born.  My full name is Elizabeth Ann Cummings, and my mom and dad were childhood sweethearts.

2)  I lived in Spain for the summer between high school and college.  I was part of the Spanish-American Heritage Exchange Program, and was one of just a handful of kids chosen from around the country to take part in this program.  I wanted to come back home the minute I arrived over there, and when it was time for me to come back home, I didn't want to leave!  I lived with a well-to-do family in a small town in sort of the northern part of Spain - Guardo.  I used to speak fairly fluent Spanish, but it's one of those things where if you don't use it you lose it.

3)  I lived in St. Thomas for about a year and a half just before I came into real estate.  I went down there with a boyfriend and several other friends.  It was great fun, and we enjoyed most of our time there, but there was alot of strong racial tension going on during that time, so we had to be careful where we went at times and when we went certain places.  We'd take 2-3 day visits to neighboring islands, St. John and Tortola, but it was vacation-land where we were as well.  It really was beautiful down there, and I'd love to go back again sometime, this time just to visit though.

4)  I'm scared to death of spiders, and I'm terrified of speaking in public!  Believe it or not, I served as State President of the New Hampshire Association of REALTORS with that almost paralyzing fear.  I did manage to get through, and got a little bit better towards the end of my term.  And I'm afraid of dogs, but I LOVE cats!  ;-)

5)  By the time I graduated from high school (Plattsburgh High School, Plattsburgh, NY), I had moved 16 times.Ann's UNH Graduation  That's ALOT of moving!  I grew up in the Air Force, my dad was a pilot, and we moved around a bit.  You'd think after all that, I would have been done with moving.  NOT!  I went to 3 different colleges - Florida Southern, Arizona State, and I graduated from the University of New Hampshire.  Since then, I've pretty much stayed put here in Portsmouth, NH!

So, there you go - FIVE things about me that most people don't know, or didn't until now.

And now, I'm to tag 3 other members of Active Rain who then will share with us 5 things about themselves.
I choose to tag:

Jay McGillicuddy
                       Ines Hegedus-Garcia
                       Gena Riede

I'm also choosing to exercise my discretion and I'm going to tag a 4th person:

Mariana Wagner

*******    OK - I'm updating this post, because I was tagged AGAIN for another Meme, this time by Tony Marriott.  My second set of 5 things most people don't know about me is here - follow that link to discover some additional tidbits!

And because I was memed a 2nd time, I got to tag 3 more people!  I chose to tag this time around:
          Sue Melhorn
          The Real Estate Tomato
          Fred Salzer

Hi Ann! You are so cute in those photos! Since you were an Air Force brat, you might want to read Jim Lee's 'meme' cause he was in the Air Force!  Very cool to learn more about you : -)  and staying put makes sense since you moved so much; but isn't it cool to learn all the different aspects of states and cities and countires? Thanks for taking the tag challenge

Carole - I just finished reading Jim's.  I knew he had been in the Air Force, but I didn't know he was involved with that plane.  It is cool to learn new things about people you see here on AR all the time!  I thought this was fun!

By the way, I added Mariana to my tags....hope I don't get in trouble for naming 4!  ;-)

Oh my, you are in SO MUCH trouble!  Must think of appropriate punishment....

How about speaking publicly in front of a large audience of spiders?

Did you know that fear of spiders is the most common fear among people in North America? (public speaking is up there too. I've often heard more people are afraid of public speaking than are afraid of dying.)

Ann- Took a Family trip to St Thomas and sailed around to St John and Martin, loved it! Parasailed and kayaked as well. My kids got to see nudists and we stumbled upon  a cock fight. Frightening and cruel.

You wouldnt be afraid of this guy- he thinks he is a cat!

Ann, you sure were a cutie back then. And you still are of course. I remembered a few of the things you have listed but I forgot about the town being founed by your ancestors. Pretty cool having a great great grandparent.

There aren't many people alive that can say they remember their great and great great grandparents.

I'll have to remember the spider thing.

I really knew about your public speaking phobia. I too am uncomfortable with it. I must admit after your year as President you seemed more comfortable up in front of us all.

Thanks Jay

"The Lovely Ann"

For someone that did not know what to say, I am impressed that you got your head around it.

That's quite the wrap up of who you are and where you came from.

Don't feel alone about the public speaking thing. I and many others are the same way.

Many years ago I was taught (in a sales class) to imagine the crowd you are speaking to in their underwear. Well this did not help me.

Why? Because the first time I used that technique while doing a speech I cracked up laughing. No one had a clue as to why I couldn't stop laughing. :)

I used to be terrified of spiders. Now I just squish them. GROSS.

I would shoot them (BAM) but they are much to small. They are not worth blowing a hole in one of my walls. LOL...

TLW "The Lovely Wife"...I Would Not Advise Anyone Shoot A Spider...ROAR!

Ann, It is so wonderful to come from a family that sounds so loving. Maybe that's why you are one of the sweetest Rainers I know. Precious photo. Sounds like your Spanish is about as good as mine. I too, loved St. Thomas and could go back anytime...let me know when you are up to it. Thank you for meme-ing me (not to sure of the spelling there). Have a wonderful holiday!

Ann..... that is pretty cool about Clermont, Florida.  It's also amazing when someone has a fear of speaking, that they can still accomplish something as you did. great job

Last.... wow, I thought I moved a lot.  lol  And I mentioned moving in my meme also.

Overall... thanks for sharing. As so many have said, this is fun.

Jay T. - I guess 'getting in trouble' harkens back to my younger days!!  ;-))
SPIDERS just creep me right out!!  I have a can of spider spray on my desk that one of our secretaries bought me a year or so ago so I could just drown them!!

Kristal - Reading all the meme posts has been fun - I like learning things about people here on AR!  Yep, I did enjoy being in Spain!

Maureen - LOL!  I felt the same way when I read some of the posts of others we've known for a long time on AR!!  And thanks for your suggestion of doing my 2nd 5 on my RT blog.  I added that link to this post afterwards.

Michele - I LOVED St. Thomas when I was there - it was so lush and beautiful, and the color of the water was just amazing!  I never parasailed down there, but we did all kinds of catamaraning and sailing around the islands down there.  And that was my first time seeing nudists on beaches, too, right out in the open.  Just a way of life in some areas!

A dog that thinks he's a cat???  Hmmm, well maybe I could try......   ;-)

Nick - thanks for stopping by!  And for the comments on my baby pic.....   ;-)

Jay - You're too cute!!  Yes, it is pretty neat to be able to say that I knew my great grandparents and both of my great-great grandmothers.  I didn't realize how special that was until I was much older and realized that alot of people never even got to know their grandparents, never mind anyone beyond that.

Don't you pull ANYTHING with spiders - NOTHING!!!
