I know there are several Rainer's that have had an issue with the 2012 Big Jumpstart Back to Basics Blog Challenge, but I am here to tell you that sometimes you need to get back to the basics and refresh your blogging plan.

I have been blogging here at ActiveRain since 2007 and have had some great success.  I can attribute my time at ActiveRain with several closed transactions, the opening of my own office and friendships across the miles!

But, I have become sloppy in my writing.  This challenge has me attending two ActiveRain University classes.  I have NEVER attended one before, guess I was too cool for school.  Sure I have attended RainCamps and have listened to RainCamps, but never attended the University.  I didn't see a reason, I thought it was for "newbies" - boy was I wrong!  To refresh my blog writing is very exciting!

So, today I attended SEO Blog Training - How to optimize your content for search engines and be found by consumers, taught by Bob Stewart.

I took notes!  I took screen captures!  I listened!  and I learned!

Here are a couple of things I learned that I had totally forgot about and don't use very well:

1.  Pick a key word phrase

2.  Use your keyword phrase 2-4% of the total word count (300 words - use it 4 times)

3.  Always be geographic when writing to the consumer.  Use geography and subject in title.

4.  I have never used the H1 Header Tags in my blogs - oops!

5.  Include your key word phrase at the end of the post (write like an essay, explain what its about, write about, and summarize)

6.  Use some anchor text linking to include your keyword phrase - link it back to your IDX search site! Now that is HOT!

If you have no idea what I am talking about go to the ACTIVERAIN UNIVERSITY CLASS CALENDAR

Jo, like you, I am very much enjoying the Back to Basics Blog Challenge.

We all need a refresher now and then; Lynn has provided us the opportunity.

I want to SELL your home, not LIST it!

A good reminder of the basic points.  It's also recommended that the keyword is more heavily featured in the first third of the text, as well as in the first and last sentences. And with latent semantic indexing, using synonyms helps as well.

just had one of those "I coulda had a V8" moments.  I always jot down notes as fast as I can in webinars.  WHY the heck haven't I been screen capturing them and pasting to a document.  Damn it.  But thanks Jo, I will from now on.
