Mature Is A Code Word For What?

By
Real Estate Agent with Keller Williams Realty 0575737

Old DufferI had a conversation with a client the other day about 55 and older or 35 years old and older ACTIVE ADULT communities. We discussed them as for "Mature" adults. So,

Mature Is A Code Word For What?

Most would say older people, but I disagree. I know MANY quite mature individuals at age 15, 20 or 25.

Mature to me means SMART.

People who have some wisdom, common sense, and learned their lessons in life from their mistakes. They respect people, do not hurt people, are not offensive, are loving, and ABOVE ALL ARE CARING.

People like the singer MIA at the Super Bowl flipping off the crowd may be talented and have good songs and perform BUT NOT BE MATURE. People who act as IDIOTS are not mature.

We all can have an idiot phase to our life, but it wears on you over time and IS NOT FUNNY ANYMORE.

Be mature in life as soon as you can. Intelligent, not vulgar or offensive, or crass or filthy. Your audience will be 100 times wider and deeper than the juveniles idiots attract.

One can grow older in life, YET not grow up. Let that NOT BE YOU!!! BE SMART!!

I have always been a pretty mature person, people have said "old soul" and I'm proud of that.

Gary, I'm actually comfortable with my "maturity" no matter what my age.  And...I refuse to grow up!

Gary - The guy in the photo looks to have a family resemblance to you. . .If I were a bettin' woman (which I am), I'd say he was your dad!

Oh yes, the golden years.  I know them pretty well now.  What I've learned about them brings to mind John Kennedy's quote about his possibly being a hero.  His response, "It was totally involuntary, they sunk my ship."  Aging is like that.  The only control we have is in the grace we display throughout the process.

You hit a home run with this one. Everyone should always be accountable for their actions and words whether you are 25 or 70.

As you rightly say, maturity has nothing to do with age and shouldn't be used as a euphemism for 55+ groups and communities.

Sharon: I thought you might like the thought.

Karen: I think old soul is a good soul.

Mona: Being comfortable in our own skin is good at any age I would say.

Myrl: Just dealing with the cards we are dealt shows real maturity. Nope, photo is not my Dad.

Eileen: A babe in the woods, ha ha.

Carl: Many mature very young people. Many very immature older people. Right.

Chris: You said it right exactly....

Gary~love this guy's face! Anyone you know?? He'd be someone I would enjoy having a "grown-up conversation with. I like the take on mature that you've defined. I agree.

Gary--Very good points. I have met some very immature 40-60 year olds...usually on the freeway. And some very responsible teenagers too. Maturity is not defined by age. Have a great weekend!

Raising our boys, we often noticed some kids that were more mature than others, it wasn't an age thing. I think of maturity as a way of behavior, at any age.

Thanks Gary.

My dad always asks me when I say 'older guy' what that means? I guess even mature means something different to everyone. But, when someone is acting like a jackass all agree that they're not mature!

Gayle: I know in your setting with the second homes and the lake, you probably have conversations with many retirees. The photo is just a photo for illustration, no one I know.

Teri: Oh so road rage people. Ouch to them!!

John: Glad you are there now John, we all have different tracks and paces.

Tom: You zeroed in on it, good behavior.

Kristin: Many parents and grandparents are so wise. They have been through so many of the wars and experiences of life.

Lyn: Mature we can think to have negative connotations like over the hill, but it is actually a very respectful term even if you are only age 15. It means you have arrived and get it, not so much still childishly developing.

Good point. I work with some younger agents that are very mature and one older agent that acts like a petulant child! Great reminder.

Mature is a code word for what? It's a code word for old fart. Everybody knows that, LOL. And I guess that makes me an old fart too, but I don't care. Some agent called me a b$tch this morning, in an email to her client. Which made her client send the email to me, accompanied by a long-winded explanation about what she thought, why she did what she did, blah, blah. I responded to her (and cc'd her agent) saying as a buyer, she needed to direct all communication to me through her agent.

See, that's what maturity is about, LOL.
