The REAL BOTTOM LINE of WHY I do what I do,put up with, and sacrifice for...

By
Real Estate Agent with Broker Associate/Realtor/ISA with Nouveau Riche

I dont profess to know what YOU like, and truthfully I pride myself on being "different" ; a LEADER (to be sure) but different...yet I much prefer watching a movie from the beginning; rather than jumping in 10-15 min later and then playing a mental catch up because of what I missed. Often its the first 10-15 minutes that sets the pace,or storyline for the entire movie--if you missed it? the rest will never be interpreted the same.

I suspect many of you are like me (even though I prefer to be different). Having said that; and having stated that I am really fine tuning all the avenues of technology to grow my business into the next plateau--I thought that I would share the real reasons for my motivations in real estate.  We all have them, motivations that is, and without getting off into some psycho babble tangents about WHY I am the way I am; or WHY I do what I do? Let's make the motivation simple: My Family.

I have an awesome family and just yesterday on THANKSGIVING I once again spake it at the dinner table. Let me step back just a bit and say that I have reached the beginning of EMPTY NESTING 4 years ago when my oldest son left for Iraq, and I was finally getting the hang of it all....the parting...the tears...the adjusting...the quietness.....and I began to LOVE the idea of having more disposable income than I had had in the past 27 years.  YEAH...I began to savor the thoughts of luncheons with friends, shopping for matching purse and shoe sets......new furniture that all matches.

WAKE-UP PATTI....WHAT WERE YOU THINKIN' ANYWAY? Its 4 years later and while I only have one left at home that is going to college full time....in addition to all that I gained? I also gained 5, COUNT THEM...FIVE grandchildren......YIKES!!!!!!!!!!   My very small window of GAIN turned into twice the amount of debt; seriously!  For any of you that have grandchildren? Don't you want to spend WAY more money on them then you did your children, right?  LOL  SO.....there's the motivation.

I have Brandon (27 yrs old, married to Jenny. He is a Staff  Sgt in the Army, completed 2 tours of Iraq and currently resides in Germany for the next 3 years. They just gave birth to TWINS, 1 boy and 1 girl about 3 weeks ago and NO I have not been able to hold them as yet) next is Justin 26 yrs old-just moved into his own apartment in Schaumburg.Justin is single. Burgandy is 24 lives with Paulie in Genoa and has granddaughter 4yrs old and 6 months old; then Jarett is 21; he and Jenny (yep two Jennys in the family) and has my 2 yr old grandson; then Cody is 19 as I mentioned earlier (in college full time)

I devoted over 25 yrs to various facets of the restaurant industry including 2 degrees as a Chef and in Hotel/Restuarant Management.  As a single mom , I earned 2 degrees in 2 years with a perfect 4.0. I often think back to those days, taking a more than full class load, working several part time jobs; raising children, attending football games, Boy Scout functions, band performances and I think HOW IN THE WORLD DID I DO THAT? Well I did and so the challenges before me daily in this challenging and ever emerging world of Real Estate should not seem too much to bear? OR IS IT? ha ha

I have been in sales before in my career of working; and one of those jobs was a commission only recruiter/head hunter. I became highly successful in that industry back in the early 80s however it took me a good two years to develop my territory and a true three years before I was producing steady paychecks that I could count on. I also came into the world of real estate just when the beginning hints of CHANGE were whispering through the trees....so in the past couple of years, all I have known is hard work.  I feel blessed to have not entered during the HEYDDAY and then have to adjust. I see those that lived through the high interest rates of the late 1970's and early 1980's; then rode the wave of the HEYDAY ; and now? they might have to work a little harder once again; but they are going to be OKAY. I, too will be okay.

After all? LOOK AT MY MOTIVATION(S)   TEE HEE HEE

That's awesome and CONGRATS on all the Grandkiddos!

Suppose retirement isn't the only thing I should plan for with 4 kids of my own.... I should start a SPOILING fund for my future grandkids :-)
