Elliott!! Great post, I actually wrote an ebook about this very thing.
You made a very good point about checking to see if the real estate attorney has an all inclusive fee or charges by the hour. often ask the question if I am not familiar with the attorney because of the phone calls I may have to make. Nothing worse than finding out those all important phone calls actually cost my client money!
And let's not forget to make sure it is not good ole Uncle Fred who is NOT a real estate attorney but a corporate law attorney or something like that. I have had a few deals where they attorney was a family friend, not a real estate attorney, and it was ... different.
There are great real estate attorneys around, LIKE YOURSELF, who do a fantastic job and are reasonable on the price.
And not to pick on attorneys, everyone needs to be a professinal, tried and true. The real estate agent, the home inspector, the mortgage person. Each player is key, if one fails, or doesn't do their job properly, the deal can tank.
Hope 2012 has been good to you so far! And it is great to see you.
