Earlier in the week a phenomenon took place hear in Southern California that we have not seen for at least 10 years. Massive surf! Oh yeah, there were reports of sets coming in 10-15 feet. You guys in Hawaii are probably rolling your eyes. But it is a big deal when you usually have 2-4 footers. :) I had half way heard, not really paying much attention to the news, that there was a high surf advisory. But I didn't really think much of it until, Wednesday when I picked up the paper and it was on the front page. So now my curiosity had been piqued, I had to make the trip, and see for myself what all the fuss was about. Now Santa Claritais not exactly "on the beach" we are inland about a 40 min drive west on the 126 thru Fillmore, and Santa Paula. Its a great little drive, nice and easy with lots of orange trees and other farming, something that one might not expect to see so close to a big metropolis like Los Angeles. So now I am in Ventura, I first went over to the mouth of the harbor next to the break water and jetty's. I figured that they would give me a great perspective as to just how big the surf really was. I took these pictures standing on top of a dune maybe 15 feet above the sand, and I am back about 50 yards from where the waves are breaking on the beach. One can't be to safe, besides I had my 11 year old nephew with me, and I didn't want him to close the water. In all I ended up taking 82 pictures, you think I got a little carried away. 8) I hope you enjoy them. Cowabunga dude!

Now you are just showing off!!! LOL!!! I love the beaches and is one of the things that I miss most about California!
Merry Christmas!
Rob I miss being near the beach. At one time I live in a Flat in SF with a view of the Pacific Ocean -- We saw some incredible surf! I also remember some Thanksgiving and Christmas dinners when we grilled outiside. We had a heat wave in New Hampshire today -- 45 degrees -- The sun was out and it was bathing suit weather lol! (not)! Happy Holidays.
Georg: I love Maui. Great golf and beaches.
Sean: No I never did take it up. However if I did I don't think I would have ventured out on that day.
Rick:Thanks, although I would suspect if you guys experienced waves like these, you might be in the middle of a hurricane.
Charles: Any time you come to the west coast, look me up. I will take you to Joes Crab Shack.
Steve: That is a unique situation. Never thought about it that way. Access to two different coasts.
Joan:45 degrees....man you guys must be sweat'n.
Rob, You are KILLING me! You remind me of the time my mom demanded that I take a picture of this HUGE awful harry tarantula that we saw on a wall just as we crossed the California State line. Me knowing those stupid spiders jumped took it from two miles away. The spider looked like this in the picture.
.
NICE!
Shannon: OK, now your KILLING me because I think something is missing in your comment. 8)

Rob, Guess you guys found the silver lining in that storm we had in in Hawaii. It was a doozie over here. Actually, it was kind of fun, really heavy rains and wind -- even some thunder and lightning. That now is something we don't often experience here. Enjoy the surf! Even a little surf is good. Jerry
Thanks for the next post - the translation tool. Couldn't bring it up tho, due to the fact that it was in Russian.
You're right, those waves are puny dude!
