Mitchell Report DONE and IN

By

I'm surprised we haven't been all over this on the sports talk board.....upstaged and outshined by the shocking Petrino resignation: George Mitchell called a news conference for Thursday to announce the results of his 20-month investigation into drug use in baseball. Mitchell said Wednesday he will release his report then, and it will be posted online at MLB.com shortly after that. Commissioner Bud Selig, who will not attend the press conference, will hold his own news conference 2½ hours after the one by Mitchell.

There is a reported 80-90 names on this report.... That's right, like I cautioned a week ago when we were throwing the number 11 (for free agents)....THERE WILL BE NAMES, OH YES- THERE WILL BE NAMES. That is an average of almost 3 players PER TEAM. I hate to say it, but the way we look at the game changes in one day....

Mitchell, a former Senate majority leader, is a director of the Boston Red Sox and served on one of Selig's economic study committees. Selig hired him in March 2006 to investigate drug use in the sport. Mitchell is a former Director of the Walt Disney Company, the parent company of ESPN.

I know he's only a pitcher...but if there was ever a pitcher that you thought might be using something....wouldn't the Rocket be it?? What we really did was miss the ball- we should have started a pool to see who could pick the most names on the list....or maybe pick 10, see how many you get right.

I'll guarantee you this- by dinner time, several members of this board will sit down to eat knowing their favorite player is a juicer....

I think A.P. was just mentioned as having shared that trainer so far, not that he's done any wrong, right?

I don't think it'll go very far back at all- he's been commissioned about a year to work on it, it'd be hard to get anything solid on past years, ya know?

Hate to say it, but have a sneaking suspision all morning that my guy Paulie Konerko is going to be named....I sure hope it's a White Sox free list...or at least guys that came in for a year and they booted, like Schoenweis

Ahhh yes...Mr Konerko...you might have something there....as for Pettitte,he was just mentioned as on the list with Clemens...so that is about all I know on that one.

Something tells me,we may be shocked by some and then think...that wasn't so shocking

What will this do for Bonds? Will people have to cut him some slack?

The names revealed are not going to be surprising the only thing that bothers me about is that Senator Mitchell is like you stated a member of the Boston Red Sox's organization. That in itself is a direct conflict of interest. Hopefully if any Red Sox's were offenders they will also be mentioned.

The list is out and I was incorrect....all of the names range from players that alegedly cheated between 2-9 years ago. Many of the names were already outed. Roger Clemens, Andy Pettitte, recently traded Miguel Tejada, Denny Neagle, Paul LoDucca, Eric Gagne, Kevin Brown are some of the bigger names to be named.

Let the fun begin and we shall see what actually happens to these players. It shall also be interesting to see what MLB and the Commissioner do in terms of truly clamping down on this.

I was surprised by some names and not surprised by others! And there were 2 Red Sox players on the list...Gagne and Donnelly. Of course they were acquired, but none the less...

Let's see how this will actually affect the game this coming season.
