Gaithersburg Receives 34th Consecutive Annual Award for Excellence in Financial Reporting
For the 34th consecutive year the City of Gaithersburg has received a Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of the United States and Canada for its most recent comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR). The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of government accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by Gaithersburg’s government and its management.
The Certificate is presented to Harold Belton, Director of Finance and Administration, Tina H. Smith, Comptroller and Ling Yan Angela Woo, Chief Accountant.
Gaithersburg’s CAFR for the year ending June 30, 2011 was judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program including demonstrating a constructive “spirit of full disclosure” to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.
The GFOA is a nonprofit professional association serving approximately 17,500 government finance professionals with offices in Chicago, IL, and Washington, D.C.
